Help Dana Schwarz, who is fighting a rare cancer

Meet Dana Schwarz, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend.

Her journey began in July of 2022, when a tumor was discovered in her abdomen, which lead to a radical hysterectomy and months of recovery. The initial surgery did not go as planned and Dana ended up with several readmissions to the hospital fighting a life-threatening infection. At this point we had hoped for full recovery and life as normal…

March 16, 2023, was a life changing day – Dana had a surgery to remove a second mass and, what the oncologist described as, scar tissue. After telling Dana’s family she was cancer free, the same doctor called 5 days later to share that pathology came back with a rare cancer known as Endometrial Stroma Sarcomas (ESS). He said he had only seen it one other time in his over 20-year career.

Endometrial Stroma Sarcomas are very rare malignant tumors that make around 0.2% of all uterine malignancies. The annual incidence of ESS is 1 – 2 per million women. To top it all off…the type of ESS cancer Dana was diagnosed with cannot be treated with Chemotherapy. Radiation is also not an option at this time and the only drug used to treat this form of cancer has major side effects. Dana fights bone degeneration, massive hot flashes, lack of sleep, and a great deal of abdominal and joint pain.

Since her initial surgery in July of 2022, she has undergone additional surgery, along a mix of 18 CT scans and X-rays.

Dana has not been able to work since earlier in the year, due to the debilitating side effects. She has applied for disability, but the process is incredibly slow. To help in the interim, we are establishing this Go Fund Me to assist Dana with medical bills in the new year, once her deductible starts over for 2024.

The goal would be to raise $10,000 to help with:

- Medical Bills

- Prescriptions

- Travel to doctor’s visits

- Therapy sessions

Dana has worked hard her entire life to support her family and be a financial contributor to the household. The past 9 months have been difficult financially and with the new year just around the corner, there will be more funds needed to meet Dana’s medical expenses.
