Help Support Daniel & Family with Epilepsy Battle

Hi there, my name is Karli Higuera. I've created this GoFundMe to relieve strain and provide support for my cousin Nicole Canchola-Shepard and her sweet family as they continue to support their father and husband Daniel Shepard, in his fight with epilepsy.

Daniel, Nicole's husband, has struggled with his diagnosis of epilepsy since mid-2020. Over time since 2020, Daniel's epileptic seizures have worsened as well as an addition of psuedosiezures, which can cause severe stress as a lingering result. In 2021, Daniel was driving home from work when he was exiting off the freeway and suffered a gran mal seizure behind the wheel. This seizure caused him to crash into a stopped intersection, where, thankfully, no one was hurt. After this event, Daniel was left unable to drive to and from work, at which time my cousin Nicole stepped in to begin driving Daniel to and from work. However, even without driving, the strain of Daniel's seizures combined with work proved too difficult for his body to maintain his health.

More recently, Daniel suffered a seizure that has placed him on a ventilator in the hospital. Daniel has had a ventilator breathing for him since October 22, 2022. During this time, Nicole has been unable to work after traveling to and from the hospital where Daniel is located in Glendale (46 miles away from their home) while still caring for their three children and trying to work to pay the monthly bills.

Anyone who has ever met the Canchola-Shepard family can tell you that their genuine kindness and hospitality towards others knows no bounds. Daniel and Nicole would give someone the shirt off their backs to help another. While Nicole and Daniel are simply grateful for the support, kind words and prayers from others, this is a time where financially, they need support more than ever.

My cousin and her husband are two of the most hard-working, thoughtful and deserving individuals I know.
