Support For Darcia’s Girls

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

It has been almost three years since Darcia was first diagnosed with breast cancer and she underwent a double mastectomy. I want to thank you again, on behalf of Darcia, for the incredible generosity and support she received from the GoFundMe back in January 2022. Your help relieved her financial burden, allowing her to focus on healing from her treatments, surgeries, and, most importantly, spending time with her girls.

Earlier this year, Darcia felt strong enough to resume her acupuncture practice. It seemed like the cancer was behind her, and she was looking forward to returning to a normal life.

Unfortunately, after just a few months, the pain returned. In May, scans revealed stage 4 liver cancer that had metastasized to her bones. She underwent radiation and completed the recommended treatments, and remained hopeful that the treatment would once again help her fight this devastating disease.

By September, she was feeling better and decided to take the girls on their annual trip to their favourite ranch, where they could volunteer in exchange for staying and riding horses. They were all so happy to be back at the ranch. Darcia unfortunately fell off one of the horses. Initially, she thought it was just minor injuries and continued to ride and enjoy the time with her girls.

After two days, she was experiencing severe pain and went to the Squamish Hospital. During this visit she learned she had not only broken her pelvis but also developed sepsis, E. coli, and pneumonia. She was immediately transferred to Lions Gate Hospital and was put on antibiotics. The doctors warned that she might not survive the night. Fortunately, the antibiotics worked! She spent five weeks in palliative care, and after a month, she began physiotherapy and even stood beside her bed—This was HUGE! She was going to be able to start trying to walk again. Baby steps!

They decided that she was stable enough to be transferred back to Squamish hospital so she could be closer to the girls. She continued her Physio there, the whole time she is hooked up to oxygen 24 hours a day and they would turn up the oxygen during the 10 minutes of Physio for her to add more steps.

Just when she thinks she is getting closer to be able to go home, she is told she has more pneumonia and they discover a large mass in her lungs. The doctors have told her the cancer is spreading. She is now accepting the fact that she probably isn’t going to beat this. We don’t know how much time she has left, and we are beginning to plan for end-of-life care.

Darcia does have a support system in place for the girls but they still need financial help. Because she wasn’t able to work much in the past few years, her savings have been used, as well as the first amount of money raised. We would like to raise more money to help pay for living expenses, any therapy, etc the girls may need, funeral expenses and put the rest of the money in a trust for the girls so Darcia can rest knowing the girls will be ok.

The goal is to be able to keep them living in the townhouse where they have lived for the past 16 years. There is currently a mortgage remaining of $168,000. Darcias dream would be to have this paid off and to have a small trust for the girls so that she can know that they’re taken care of. The current support team will be in charge of the trust for the girls.

Any donations or shares of this GoFundMe would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again,

Kristina Clark
