Help Lauren Moody from Going Blind
Donation protected
EMERGENCY APPEAL: Help keep Lauren’s eyesight. She is completely out of
prescription eyedrops and risks losing her vision. Without immediate funds, she
may go blind.
I was introduced to a woman named Lauren Moody about 2 years ago over the phone by a few friends who have been in communication with her.
In short, I learned that she was a 70-year-old widow, living in a mold-infested home in a remote area of Northern California. She has been dealing with narrow-angle glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness, for over twenty years, which causes extreme pain. In 2004 she had botched eye surgery which caused her to not be able to look at either computer or phone screens and has been disabled since that time. Given this condition, she is no longer a candidate for further surgery options.
She currently relies on prescription compounded eyedrops to lower the intraocular pressure, ease the pain, and prevent permanent blindness. She has already lost much of the sight in her left eye and is desperate to keep sight in her right eye. Also learned that the intraocular pressure must be kept under control 24/7 to protect the vision.
Unfortunately, Lauren has been without these eye drops since the week of June 19, 2023. Now she has been experiencing pain (which prevents her from sleeping), pressure, and now bleeding in her left eye. At this point, this is a medical emergency.
Lauren's only source of income is Social Security, however, 80% of it goes towards these prescription eyedrops, while the rest goes towards food, rent and other bills. Attached is the letter from her doctor attesting to the need for these compounded eye drops. Also, information from Cambridge, and UC San Francisco University Ophthalmologists.
The pharmacy will not compound any more eyedrops for Lauren until she has paid her bill in full. She currently owes $2,420.00. Without immediate funds, she risks losing her vision. These prescription drops are not covered by any insurance or Medicare.
Lauren lives a Spartan life, she has no car, no TV, no cell phone and no family that can help. She has sold much of her furniture to pay for the prescription. Also, her landlord increased the rent a few months ago.
In short, all contributions would be used for the following:
- Prescription eye-drops (owes about $2,420.00)
It'll be a real blessing to be able to raise enough to help change this woman's life so even if it's small, your contribution and/or prayers will make a difference! Please share this request with any friends or family who may be able to help Lauren keep her vision.
P.S. Also, attaching an invoice from the pharmacy, showing the cost of the eyedrops, at $50/bottle. She requires at least one bottle per day to keep her eye pressure down.
