Help Support Frederick, My Emotional Support Dog
Donation protected
Did I rescue Frederick, or did he rescue me? Frederick, my Georgia boy, was a rescue through DRSF (Dalmatian Rescue of Southern Florida). He arrived at my home just as COVID began and my community shut down in 2020. He is an emotional support animal (ESA) for me and the Ambassador of our community to all that know and love him. A healing soul, he reads the world around him, delivering unconditional love to everyone he meets.
Frederick started getting sick in mid-March with vomiting; then he wasn’t eating much and he quickly lost over 20% of his weight. His wonderful vet, Dr. Carter at Animal House in Delray Beach, changed his diet twice (to a GI food and then a hydrolyzed protein diet). He took stomach X-rays, did 2 ultrasounds and 2 sets of bloodwork. Nothing was conclusive as to why Frederick continues to deteriorate, vomit, lose weight, be lethargic and have diarrhea. He then referred us to an internist specialist, Dr. Lechner, at Vet Emergency & Referral Services in Palm Beach Gardens.
In the last week, Frederick has been to the hospital 4 times including a two-night stay, receiving 4 subcutaneous fluid injections, a chest X-ray and endoscopy with biopsies. He still is not able to eat or drink. He has a shunt in his neck to get meds, nutrition and fluids. He came home Wednesday from the hospital. He is skin and bones and very lethargic and has gone from 52 to 40 pounds; his once expressive eyes are sunken. Hopefully, the meds are relieving his pain.
We have yet to get a final diagnosis. Hopefully, the biopsies will show a definitive ailment which we can then treat. Right now, we’re hoping for Crohn’s Disease rather than Cancer of the stomach or intestines. Once we have a firm diagnosis, then we can begin treatment.
Since mid-March, Frederick’s medical bills have cost almost $12,000. Please help me save Frederick as he has saved me by contributing to his veterinary medical care which is only just beginning.
Thank you for anything you can contribute to his medical bills.
