Help support Gordon Gehrke and his Family.

Hello, my name is Bob. March 21, 2023, started out to be a normal day for my brother Gordon, getting up and checking on our Mom who lives next door, milking his few cows, feeding the calves and doing the normal animal chores
on his farm. Around noontime disaster struck that will forever change his life. While working on the
back of his pickup truck he stepped backwards and caught his foot losing his balance and falling over the
side of his truck. He was laying face down next to the truck unable to move for six hours before Sherry,
his wife, found him. The paramedics took him to Delnor hospital where they determined he had a
broken neck and then air lifted him to Good Samaritan hospital in Downers Grove. The next day was an
eight hour surgery, followed by 10 days in the CCU. He was then transferred to Marion Joy
Rehabilitation Center for vigorous therapy. After the surgery he could move his arms and had some
control of his hands but no movement from the chest down. Five weeks later some feeling is coming to
his back and also he can feel his skin on his legs. These are minor improvements but mobility may come
back over time. It may take a year or two, but therapy is an important part in getting it back.
He will only be able to stay at Marion Joy for a few more weeks before he will be sent home. This is
where the expenses will start, converting a normal house to handicapped accessibility in a few weeks is
a daunting task for Sherry who is still taking care of her horses, her elderly father, and learning how to
care for her currently handicapped husband. In-home therapy along with a nurse will be able to help,
but probably additional social worker’s help will be needed.
Gordon’s cattle have been sold and the barn sits empty for the first time since our Grandpa bought the
farm in March of 1956. This year’s crops will be planted and harvested by the family and some friends,
and hopefully by this time next year Gordon might be helping again. I want to thank all the people who
have helped Gordon, Sherry and Mom over the past weeks, and also all of the hundreds of people
praying for him. Many people have asked how they could financially help them so this is where the
funds would go to the renovations and in home care. Thank you in advance and thank the Lord for
every day he gives us on this earth.

Blessings to all,
Bob
