How quickly your world can be flipped upside down with no way to plan, except to act quickly.

On Friday, April 26th, 2024, Jamey randomly took a day off of work. He woke up that morning and graciously offered to take Morgan (one of his daughters) to the eye doctor to help out. While at the eye doctor, Jamey started to not feel well. This feeling was something he had never experienced. Not wanting to alarm his daughter he mentioned his back hurt and asked if she would drive them home after the eye appointment. After arriving back at the house Jamey and I jumped in the jeep and headed to the Emergency Room.

The doctors ran some tests. Jamey’s tests were all within normal limits and therefore the doctor felt that what he was experiencing was an esophageal spasm. After 5 long hours, and no real relief, we were discharged from the ER.

About an hour later the sharp pains returned and intensified. Luckily our daughter MacKenzie and I were home with him as we witnessed Jamey have stroke-like symptoms. I knew at that moment we were heading back to the ER.

Luckily the same ER doctor was still there, and he knew he needed to find out what was happening. They ordered a CT scan, and it was that diagnostic test that revealed Jamey’s diagnosis of an Aortic Dissection. At this point, every minute mattered. He was quickly transferred to Los Robles Hospital where Jamey would undergo an 8.5-hour long heart surgery.

The Surgery was a success. The doctor shared that the surgery was challenging and worse than they had expected, and it was questionable at times whether Jamey would make it through the surgery. The aortic dissection caused Jamey’s carotid artery to narrow significantly. He recommended friends and family continue to pray.

Approximately 36 hours after surgery, Jamey suffered a few strokes leaving him unable to speak and use the right side of his body. Jamey continues to fight every day. Little by little he is talking and working hard to regain his strength on the right side of his body.

Jamey has a long road ahead. He will transfer to an Acute Rehab facility where they will focus on physical therapy and work on regaining his normal activities of daily living.

Jamey is the best husband, dad, friend, and person with no ego who is always putting God first. A healthy guy who had no warning. While Jamey doesn’t like to be the center of attention. At this time, he needs all the love, support, and prayers to help him through this long journey ahead. We thank you for your support and prayers.
