Hi, my name is Tara Murray Jaquith and my identical twin sister is Jannah Murray Swedick. Some years ago, she was injured in a rear-end car accident on a highway when another car slammed into the back of her car, totaling her Volvo. Jannah suffered a concussion, popped rib, and severe whiplash, which damaged the ligaments in her neck, leading to a diagnosis of CCI (Cranial Cervical Instability). For years she struggled to heal and eventually, with many, many treatments and continued medical care, she improved enough to cope pretty well with the injuries. Then one year ago, she got sick and it led to life-threatening complications due to the old Cranial Cervical Instability. Unfortunately a medication that was necessary to save her life at the time, caused a worsening of the CCI. As a result, she has been struggling with neurological breathing problems, leading to constant shortness of breath and frequent asthma attacks as well as very debilitating neck pain, headaches, swallowing issues, dizziness, etc. Some days she struggles to even walk around her house and other days she is functional with medication and treatment. Specialized MRI studies and other imaging has shown a severe worsening of her CCI, to the point of “permanent disability” due to ligament damage and deterioration. This has caused inflammation and pressure on her brain stem area.
After consults with specialists in three states, she has been advised that she needs a cutting edge, fairly new treatment in Colorado where regenerative medicine is used to restore the damage to the ligaments at the Cranial Cervical Junction. The Clinic is the only facility in the world where this procedure is performed, which involves the extraction of bone marrow stem cells from the patients own hip bones. The resulting regenerative medicine is then injected into the damaged ligaments at the Cranial Junction near the brain stem under general anesthesia. After many consults, Jannah and David have decided that this is the best option to help her hopefully heal. (Otherwise she would need to have major surgery to fuse her C-spine. Surgery would leave her with limited neck movement, probable complications, and would be a last resort.) Jannah and David plan to travel to Colorado from their home in Vermont in the later part of April for the procedure. The specialist has told them that she will probably need 2-4 procedures starting in April and continuing over the summer months. The challenging issue is that this treatment costs $15,000 for each procedure and it is not covered by their insurance so it will have to be paid out of pocket. The airfare, hotel, and car rental will add to the expense. Jannah and David work very hard to cover their expenses and they are doing their best to pay for the already existing medical treatments that Jannah has required, all while raising little Mariah. All proceeds from this Go Fund Me will go directly to help make this medical treatment possible for Jannah.
Thank you all in advance for your kindness. We truly, truly appreciate it and don’t want anyone to feel obligated in any way.
With a grateful heart,
Tara
