Help Support Justin's Epic Journey Home

My name is Elizabeth Emerick and I’m fortunate to be one of Justin’s many cousins. I’m a year his senior and our families lived in neighboring towns growing up, so I have known him since he was a wee one. I have lots of memories of holidays at our grandparents’ house surrounded by Justin and my many other cousins.

Unexpectedly, Justin suffered an aortic dissection on Sunday, April 2nd that resulted in open heart surgery and two stents being placed. He has been in the hospital ever since. His recovery so far has been a bit of a roller coaster as there have been complicating issues since the initial lifesaving surgery. He has been in and out of the ICU, through several surgeries including an additional stent placement, and on dialysis. Although recovery is trending in the right direction, he has a long road ahead as there is still uncertainty surrounding his kidney function and the use of his left leg.

His wife Cecelia and their 9-month-old son Daniel are currently living with her sister who is closer to the hospital and who has also been helping care for Daniel while Cecelia spends as much time with Justin as she is able. Justin also has an older daughter Zoey who lives out of state with her mom and has only been able to see him via Zoom. Donated funds will be used for things like their monthly bills, medical bills, travel expenses, and any day-to-day needs to help support them through this challenging time.
