Help Support Kathy's Medical Expenses

On November 29th, I dropped my parents off at the airport for what was supposed to be a festive and joyous two weeks exploring the holiday markets of Eastern Europe on a river cruise. They spent 24 hours traveling to their destination, and once they finally arrived they began exploring the beautiful country of Hungary with their friends. However, just two days in, I received a phone call from my dad that I'll never forget telling me my mom got hit by a taxi cab while crossing the road that evening in Budapest.

My mother is currently in a hospital in Budapest with little to no access to any pain medication while dealing with a broken leg, broken ribs, a concussion, hemothorax (when blood collects between your chest wall and your lungs), external bruising, and other wounds I probably don't even know about yet as a result of this.

I am sitting here feeling useless because at this time, they're still in Budapest trying to arrange to get her home so she can have surgery and receive the proper care she needs to recover. In order to do this, we need to secure an EMS Air Ambulance to fly her back, rather than a commercial flight like they came on. This will allow for a doctor to be on board monitoring her and this arranges for a crew, catered flight plan, and plane to be secured for her to travel home safely to Portland, Maine while also causing the least amount of risk to her health while traveling.

This process isn't cheap. My family is looking at a $200,000 total just for their journey home. It's a lot but it's what we need to do to make sure she gets home safely. I have created this Go Fund Me for anyone that is willing and able to contribute anything they can to help ease that financial burden in any way, no matter how big or small.

My mom is one of my best friends. She's someone that has always had my back and been by my side whenever and wherever I need her. I feel so blessed to have her in my life and I would do absolutely anything for her. If you've met her, you truly know just how great she is. And she's a fighter. Strong and brave and that's what is getting us all through this.

They have a long road ahead, so anything I can provide my parents with to ease the stress financially would mean the world.
