Dear friends and community
I know it's been a minute since you've seen me in Harlem/East Harlem doing community work. I was working tirelessly for my former employer in the 68th State Assembly, dedicating my heart and soul to making our neighborhood a better place. But what unfolded next is a story I never thought I'd have to tell, a story of despair and unexpected cruelty.
Imagine being at your most vulnerable, lying in a hospital bed, fighting for your life, and grappling with unimaginable pain both physically and emotionally. This was my reality. While I fought to recover, my world crumbled around me. My employer terminated me, the person I had dedicated so much of my life to serving, while still in that hospital room on my deathbed. The shock, betrayal, and heartbreak were almost unbearable.
I had always believed in the power of community, in lifting each other up during times of need. But to experience such cruelty from someone I had trusted was a devastating blow. As I lay there, I couldn't help but wonder how I had ended up in this nightmare, facing a bleak and uncertain future.
The termination left me not only emotionally shattered but also with no medical insurance and a mountain of financial burdens. The medical bills began to pile up, a constant reminder of the hardship I was now facing. And there was the pressing need for a prosthetic leg, a lifeline to regain my mobility and independence.
I never thought I'd find myself in a position where I had to ask for help, especially after dedicating my life to serving our community. But my circumstances have left me with no other option. I want nothing more than to walk again, to continue my community work, and to find a way back to a semblance of a normal life. I refuse to be dependent on a wheelchair, and I need your support to make that a reality.
If you can find it in your heart to contribute to my GoFundMe page or share my story with others who might be willing to help, you would be offering me a lifeline, a glimmer of hope in the midst of darkness. Your generosity could be the key to unlocking my path from despair to recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story, and thank you in advance for any support you can provide during this heartbreaking and challenging chapter in my life. Together, we can restore hope and rebuild a future that I once believed was within reach. Sincerely Keith Lilly
