Help support Kimberly’s back surgery

Hello everyone! 

I am fundraising to support Kimberly getting the back surgery she desperately needs. She is a 27 year old mother who could really use your help! 

In June of 2023, Kimberly underwent a 3 part major spinal surgery that left her hospitalized for weeks after with disabling pain. The doctor consulting on the case reported “a complication with the operation with malpositioning of the screws.” There was also evidence of fractures caused from the surgery. 

“Malposition (n): wrong or fault position”

A screw was completely sticking out of her vertebra which splintered the bone. 

She was hospitalized for several weeks, all while her care team told her there was nothing wrong, nothing that could be fixed. I myself am a nurse and witnessed multiple health care professionals treat her as though there was no reason for her pain. 

I personally witnessed her screaming out in pain, just for 90 percent of the health care professionals to gaslight her and insinuate it was in her head and an “act”.

She was given medication and injections to numb the pain from the waist down, then discharged. 

Kimberly did everything in her power to commit to healing in the months following. Physio 2/3 times a week for months. Massage. Needling. Swimming. Acupuncture. You name it!

She underwent several procedures and tests but ultimately, did not improve much.

After 10 months of agony and being told there was nothing wrong with her, she sent her medical images to neurosurgeons around the world. 

Every. Single. One. Unanimously reported the same findings. The surgery was performed wrong. This was evident on her scans 7 days post op. If they would have gone back in then, it would have simply been the one screw needing fixed. Now she is strapped with a plethora of conditions. A revision surgery is needed ASAP to avoid permanent, lifelong disabilities! 

Some of the reported findings include, but are not limited to:

• Screw malpositioning

• Two loose screws 

• Pseudarthrosis (no fusion occurred)

• Severe spinal stenosis  

    (narrowing of spinal canal compressing 

     nerves)

• CSF leak (spinal cord fluid leak)

• Evidence of fracture

• Disc degeneration 

• No evidence of bone graft

She was told “basically, your spinal cord is being attacked from all angles. 

Kimberly has been told she will need multiple operations moving forward. The first surgery needed involves 8-10 hours on the operating table with a 6-12 month recovery. She has got a long road ahead of her. If this treatment doesn’t happen soon, she will be likely be left permanently disabled. The nerve damage is already quite extensive and after suffering for the last year, it is believed she is already at a stage of permanent damage. 

We all know how long Canadian Healthcare waitlists can be and she doesn’t have time to wait. 

This will only give time for everything to deteriorate and has been clinically proven to negatively affect the outcome of the revision. 

Waiting doubles her chances of never recovering….

However, she has spoken with a surgeon who can have her scheduled within a few weeks if she can gather the $60,000 needed for the surgery, flights, and accommodation while recovering. Extensive research has been done and this guy is the real deal! 

Since originally creating this GoFundMe for her, her condition has worsened tremendously as the scans indicate within only one month apart. Her spine is degenerating…

I have known kimberly for years and consider her a close friend. She is an amazing mom, and will always help others in anyway she can. I have watched her suffer over the last year and am hopeful we can spread awareness of her story and get her the help she desperately needs and very much deserves.
