Please Help Support Kyri Who Suffered Traumatic Brain Injury

Donation protected

Hello everyone,

My name is Greg, my brother Kyri had a terrible accident in the early hours of Christmas Eve and sustained a severe head injury and has since been in hospital in intensive care and then needed a life saving operation to release pressure that was on his brain.

It's beyond belief what we have been through over the last 12 months. 2024 had been a real tragic year for us.

The year started with my dad being diagnosed with kidney cancer. He underwent surgery in July to have his Kidney removed and now has to be regularly monitored as it's a high-grade cancer. That was difficult enough to deal with then my sister became ill and was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. We were all in shock as she is so young.

My brother Kyri who built himself a nice new life in Canada was naturally very distressed being so far away from us while we were enduring all these problems. He wanted to be here for Gina's operation which was scheduled for 2nd December 2024

Unfortunately, the operation did not go ahead as planned because Gina became unwell with a chest infection. She was eventually given a new date for 3rd January 2025. But because of Kyri's work commitments etc.. He booked his return flight for 27th December 2024.

On 23rd December he met a friend in London and they visited some bars. He was happy to reunite with some old friends while he was over here in the UK. We were in absolute shock to be notified in the early hours of Christmas eve that Kyri was involved in a horrific accident and was in intensive care in a coma and it was very very serious.

It was a freak accident that happened at Be At One Spitalfields, apparently he was going down the stairs to visit the gents room but missed a step and fell down the whole flight of stairs. The set up in this bar is ridiculous, it seems a very bad idea having to go down stairs to visit the loo especially after having a few drinks. I visited this place to collect some of Kyri's belongings and was really shocked by the set up and how steep and narrow this staircase is, and there is only 1 hand railing!

Alcohol and Stairs are a disaster waiting to happen and unfortunately for us and Kyri it happened to him! I really think there should be some kind of law that venues like Bars, Pubs and Clubs must have Toilets on the same level as the bar, I have always said this and after seeing this particular Bar's staircase leading down to the toilets it has made me want to push more for something to be done about this to venues everywhere. Or they could at least have a couple of steps then a landing then a few more steps and another landing etc so if someone does fall they won't fall down the whole flight of stairs. They should also be carpeted as the amount of times I've seen people take drinks with them on wooden stairs, spilling them, especially if they have had a couple of drinks already, it's just extremely dangerous and something should be done about it otherwise this will happen again and will turn other families lives upside down! Seriously when I saw the staircase my brother fell down I thought to myself how did he not break his neck and die, they are dangerous!

It is extremely difficult for us seeing our beloved Kyri in this state as he had so much going for him in life, he was a very fit and active person. We pray that he makes a good recovery but it will be a very long hard journey.

Kyri was not in permanent employment. He had a temporary contract which was about to be renewed for another 6 months. But since this has happened it is no longer valid and he has no more money coming in.

We are very concerned as he has mortgage commitments etc and has no income now and we don't want him to lose everything he's worked so hard to achieve, which is why we are setting up this go fund me appeal.

Many people have asked us if they can support Kyri in some way and quite a few have told us to set up a Go Fund Me.

We have been told that Kyri’s injury could take up to 5 years to get better and to his old self hopefully depending on what the extent of the damage is to his brain, and we won’t know until he can start to walk and talk etc so we just pray he will one day be the same Kyri we all know and love and not have any permanent damage because that would be truly heart breaking for us all, at the moment he still cannot seem to move the right side of his body.

So please if you could help us support Kyri financially in his time of need and throughout his long road to recovery it would be greatly appreciated and lessen the burden for my parents, sister and myself as we don’t want him to lose everything and the life he built for himself in Canada that he has worked so hard for.

All funds will be used for helping maintain Kyri's household expenses, his mortgage and for his care when he is eventually rehabilitated.

So again please if you can support Kyri, in any way, no matter how small, we would really appreciate your support.

Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity. It really means a lot to us.

Love from Kyri’s Immediate family.
