Support Lakambini Gomez’s Brain Aneurysm Recovery
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Misheal Joy Buenaventura, and I am reaching out on behalf of my fiancé’s aunt, Lakambini Gomez Danag.
About Lakambini:
Lakambini Gomez Danag is a 41-year-old Filipina mother of two young children, currently residing in the Philippines. She traveled to Calgary, Alberta, to visit her brother and his family, cherishing the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones she hadn’t seen in years.
The Incident:
On the morning of January 30, 2025, Lakambini woke up complaining of severe neck pain, her sister-in-law checked her blood pressure three times which turned out to be all normal. She (Lakambini) then decided to rest a bit longer, thinking it was just possibly due to sleeping in an awkward position. Around 7:00 AM, her family attempted to wake her, but she was unresponsive. Panicked, they immediately called 911. Paramedics arrived promptly and transported her to Foothills Medical Centre.
Upon arrival, the medical team conducted urgent assessments and discovered that Lakambini had suffered a brain hemorrhage—a life-threatening condition where bleeding occurs within the brain tissue. She was rushed into emergency surgery to alleviate the pressure caused by the bleeding. As of now, she remains unconscious in the intensive care unit, with her family anxiously awaiting updates on her condition.
Medical Update:
As of 12:45 PM, the attending doctor informed the family that Lakambini has a brain aneurysm.
As of January 31,2025, she remains under close observation by her healthcare team. Every four hours, her sedation is carefully reduced to assess her level of consciousness. Despite these efforts, Lakambini has not yet regained consciousness, even after her shoulder is pinched to check for a response.
The medical team is monitoring her closely, and we remain hopeful as they continue to watch for any signs of improvement.
On January 31, we visited Lakambini and were encouraged by the progress she has made. She was able to follow instructions from the doctor, gripping our hands when asked. When instructed to give a thumbs-up, she successfully responded. Additionally, she moved her toes and knees. When we asked if she could hear us, she nodded twice in response. This is truly a testament to God’s goodness, and her fast recovery is an incredibly positive sign.
Today, February 1, she has shown even more progress—she was able to open her eyes. Just like yesterday, she continues to respond to verbal instructions, hear us, feel sensations, and move her body. Currently, the doctors are conducting a CT scan to assess the condition of her brain, and we are awaiting the results.
Today, February 9,2025 Lakambini's neurological condition has improved significantly, she’s four times better than before. She’s more alert, following instructions, nodding, and even blinking occasionally. She is more awake now. The doctor mentioned that her condition is now less critical. She had a fever yesterday, but the nurse administered Tylenol. Her blood pressure was relatively stable, ranging between 110-120/70-80+, with no major spikes. Overall, today brought good progress.
The Challenge:
While Lakambini had secured travel insurance before her trip, the coverage is limited and insufficient to meet the extensive medical expenses arising from such a critical emergency. As a visitor in Canada for less than six months, she is not eligible for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) coverage. The mounting costs of emergency surgery, intensive care, and potential rehabilitation are overwhelming for her and her family.
Our Plea:
We are humbly reaching out to compassionate individuals for assistance. Your generous contributions will directly support Lakambini’s medical expenses, including:
• Emergency surgery costs
• Intensive care unit charges
• Post-operative care and rehabilitation
• Medications and medical supplies
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to ensuring Lakambini receives the care she needs to recover and return to her children in the Philippines.
A Message from the Family:
“Lakambini is the heart of our family—a loving mother, sister, and friend. Her unexpected medical emergency has left us devastated, but we hold onto hope. We are deeply grateful for any support you can provide during this challenging time. Your kindness will forever be remembered in our hearts.”
Thank you for taking the time to read Lakambini’s story. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with others who might be willing to help. Together, we can make a difference.
God bless.
Note: This campaign is organized by Misheal Joy Buenaventura on behalf of the Gomez family. All funds raised will be used exclusively for Lakambini’s medical expenses and related costs.
