Help support Laura and Kenny

Donation protected
As many of you already know, our friend Laura Lass has been coping with her son’s diagnosis of a serious medical condition and now needs our help. She’s lost a significant amount of time from work while she navigates around Kenny’s needs and as we know, bartenders and real estate agents don’t get “paid time off” when life calls. Kenny’s recovery is still uncertain and it’s unclear how much more income Laura will lose while she’s caring for him. We are hoping to help her recoup the lost income and provide her with a big enough safety net that she no longer has to worry about taking more time off when the time comes. We’d also like to help cover her costs of traveling for Kenny’s doctors appointments and any other expenses that come with providing for his new needs.

Kenny’s Story:

Just days after Kenny’s 11th birthday on Christmas Day of 2018, Kenny began to suffer a headache that was difficult to manage with a sometimes unbearable intensity. After a trip to the ER and a couple doctors visits, Kenny was admitted to the hospital on January 10th with Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (blood clots in his brain). CVT is a rare form of clot that’s even more rare in children his age, and even rarer without having an explanation for them. Over the past three months, Kenny had several serious complications as a result of the clots while enduring a constant, debilitating headache. He’s been admitted to the hospital twice, spent 5 days in the ICU, had two spinal taps, and a drainage shunt surgically implanted into his lower spine. Kenny has also lost significant vision in one eye and is now grossly underweight. And of all the specialists who’ve reviewed his case, nobody has been able to find the cause of all of it. To date, Kenny’s CVT has even worsened since their discovery and he’s got a long road ahead. Kenny requires round the clock care and multiple visits to specialists on a weekly basis making it impossible for her to conduct business during the day.

Kenny is outgoing and friendly with an enthusiasm for sports and a passion for hockey. He’s been a proud player for the Providence Jr Bears for more than half his life. As a lifelong fan of the Boston Bruins, he had aspirations to someday be a player in the NHL. Before he learned to skate for the Jr Bears, Kenny had already begun turning the kitchen into his own arena so he could practice his stick handling skills. When he was 3, he was loudly cheering on Bruins goalie “chim chomas” all the way to the Stanley Cup. His future in hockey remains questionable but he’s optimistic and motivated to make a full and complete recovery.

Your donation will be genuinely appreciated. All funds will go toward Laura to help recover the income she’s lost over the past three months and to ensure that she’s free to take time off in the future should Kenny’s treatment require it. It will also replace the income she loses while she puts her real estate business on hold since his recovery requires her to be with him during the day. Funds will also go towards other expenses that arise from his care (equipment to support the rehabilitation phase of his recovery, parking and gas expenses to hospitals and specialists, special dietary needs). All remaining funds will be used to give Kenny a much anticipated vacation. Kenny’s vacations have always involved amusement parks. It is determined that amusement park rides will not be an option for a long while but plane rides should be ok. Kenny has chosen to embark on an iceland adventure this summer to see parts of this world he’d only seen in pictures and to experience something brand new in life.

**A Message From Laura**

I wanted to give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s been following Kenny’s story and offering support, love, and prayer. Kenny has gotten support and encouragement from people he didn’t even think would notice. The support he’s received from the Providence Junior Bears and our local hockey leagues have had an incredible impact on his determination to recover. The recognition he’s received from people he didn’t even know has given him the chance to see how deeply compassionate we can be to each other. The love he’s received from his friends will forever remind him of the value a good friend will bring to our lives. When he recovers from this, we will *all* have a deeper understanding of just how meaningful life really is.

Truly, thank you.
