Hi I'm Cheryl, I am fundraising on behalf of my Dad, Lenny.

Meet Lenny a truly amazing Husband to his childhood sweetheart Elaine, devoted Father of three, Grandad, Brother, Uncle and cherished Friend to so many. Lenny has dedicated his life as a builder, working tirelessly to provide for his family and giving his time generously to others.

Lenny has prided himself on being healthy and a fitness fanatic all his life, playing for many local football, snooker, darts and golf teams over the years and even building his own home gym. In short he has done everything to lead a healthy life with the aim of one day retiring healthy to make more memories with his beloved family.

In February 2024 our world came crashing down when our Dad was given the devastating diagnose of having Motor Neurone Disease (MND) (ALS) Type/Progressive Bulbar Palsy, with life expectancy of 6 months to 3 years from the onset.

MND strikes people of all ages and currently there is no cure. It is not known why this happens. MND is a condition that effects the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It results in the progressive loss of motor neurones that control voluntary muscles and the condition gets worse over time. MND effects gripping, walking, speaking, swallowing and breathing. It can significantly shorten life expectancy and can dramatically impact someones life and those close to them.

The only drug currently available in the UK on the NHS is Riluzole which has been shown to slow the progression by two or three months. Riluzole can have many side effects including weight loss, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting & numbness/tingling around the mouth.

There are many drug trials currently underway in the UK / Europe / USA & Canada to slow or stop the progression of this devastating disease. One drug which has shown very positive results is Interleukin-2 (Proleukin), which has shown to significantly slow or halt the progression of the disease. This drug after many many years is still not available on the NHS, but can be obtained privately at the cost of £1020 a month.

As a family we have decided to set up this GoFundMePage for our own fundraising and we would greatly appreciate others donating to help support my Dad, Lenny with the financial cost of this expensive private medication that will provide us with HOPE and MORE TIME. Also to enable Lenny and his family with the resources, travel costs to make more precious memories.
