Help support Lisa & Dylan after the fire

On Sunday December 17, 2023, my sister and her son, Lisa and Dylan van der Veen were woken by a fire blazing in the home next to theirs in Lindsay, Ontario.

Lisa and Dylan were able to escape without harm; their dog Piper and cat Smokey escaped too but there has been significant damage to the interior of their house due to fire, smoke and water.

They were able to access the house today to get out their essential items as well as precious mementoes- but much has been lost, especially in Lisa and Dylan's bedrooms.

Lisa and Dylan will not be able to return to their home for the foreseeable future- due to the damages caused by the fire, as well as the nature of the fire (suspected arson), there will be ongoing investigations by the police as well as insurance... which will all take time.

Lisa and Dylan have been through a lot as a family of two- Lisa's partner Andrew passed away when Dylan was a year old, and Lisa has been both mom & dad ever since. She has worked very hard to give Dylan a healthy, happy home- to now be faced with the uncertainty of not knowing when (or possibly if) they can go back.

We know that this is a hard time of year for many, but if you can help with a donation to Lisa and Dylan please know that it would mean so much to them and their family... Money raised through this fund will go towards helping with day to day expenses, and furnishings for the home that they will be moving into over the next week while their home is being repaired. Lisa has been able to access emergency funds through her insurance, but given that there is so much involved in this situation, any extra will help tremendously <3
