Help support Lynn's journey to recovery!

I would like to introduce you to my beautiful sister, Lynn McClellan. On the surface, Lynn appears to be a reasonably healthy individual with few cares or burdens. However, to say that she is in severe pain and constant discomfort would be an understatement.  Lynn is a suffering with Traumatic Brain Injuries, resulting from a car accident early this year.  These injuries include rotational and multifocal concussion, brain swelling with intracranial hypertension, trauma-induced Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence (SCD or SCDS), multiple musculoskeletal injuries, and several secondary symptoms and complications further explained below.

You will rarely hear Lynn complain about her pain or request much more than prayer while she simultaneously asks how she can be praying for you.  She tries not to draw attention to her symptoms and is much more likely to hide away in silence, rather than ask for something.  So it may come as a surprise to some that she continues to have significant difficulties that cause chronic headaches, imbalance, nausea and vomiting, eye movement issues, and speech, and hearing challenges.  These injuries have resulted in the inability to work and a complete loss of income, as well as a significant increase in expenses as she is seeing multiple doctors and specialists at this time.

I am setting up this Go Fund Me on Lynn’s behalf to help provide financial support for her immediate medical treatment needs, care, and other financial needs that have been a direct result of this accident.  Lynn has exhausted her personal savings and immediate resources, and is in significant need of a treatment protocol that will otherwise not be available to her.  I am requesting funds for the most imminent needs at this time; however after this treatment there will be continued medical care required which may result in additional fundraising needed in the future.  Please keep reading to better understand Lynn’s condition and the treatment these funds will be used for.

One night in February 2020, my sweet sister was on her way to work, prepared to support a new family with care of their medically fragile infant.  She did not make it to work that night.  She was the victim of an automobile accident that left multiple injuries, many of which are not immediately visible.

In the days and months following the accident, she has suffered debilitating symptoms which include severe headaches, uncontrollable vomiting, dizziness, and extreme fatigue.  She has visual disturbances, limited ability to handle movement or motion without inducing imbalance and vomiting, and excessive sensitivity to sensory stimuli such as lights and sound.  She has cognitive struggles which cause significant delays in critical thinking and problem solving, has speech stutters and looping, confuses details, and has difficulty recalling information.  She suffers countless struggles that were not present before this accident, and is simply not able to function as she once did.

In fact, prior to this accident Lynn was leading what most of us would call a “normal” life.  She had just celebrated her 41st birthday.  She was working as both a birth and post-partum doula and also part-time doing inventory and acquisitions management for a medical research company.  Lynn enjoyed her work and still made it a priority to help others, spend time with friends, participate in various professional organizations and ministry-related programs, and spend time with the Lord daily.  She was thriving!  Lynn was financially stable with savings and was full of joy and energy; she was looking forward to what the next year of her life would bring about.

Daily chores and tasks were neither a drain or a strain, as Lynn has always enjoyed managing domestic tasks such as cooking elaborate meals to share and keeping a clean home.  She could often be found singing and dancing about through the house while doing her chores, in a deep conversation with friends, reading (often for the sheer joy of learning something new), researching information for a client or friend, caring for others in some way, or playing chase or fetch with her kitten.  Yes, her cat plays fetch!  None of these life-giving activities are very manageable tasks for Lynn at this time without the interference of vertigo, nausea, and exhaustion.  When she becomes exhausted, most of the previously discussed symptoms amplify.

In addition to these physical symptoms, my sister has lost much of her independence and free-spirited nature.  She is mostly homebound, as she is dependent upon other people for transportation and errands, as she is unable to safely and confidently drive.  Most days are spent resting and trying to accomplish the tasks and goals that she is working toward, or seeing her doctors (often by telemedicine).

And that is where the silver lining to this story comes in!

Lynn has a LOT of faith and a LOT of hope!  She remains steadfast in her faith that the Lord God, Jehovah, is guiding her through this valley and will provide means for her healing!

There are many avenues of treatment that Lynn is currently engaged in and planning for, and she is in the care of many physicians and healthcare professionals.  Several of these doctors have confirmed that she will need a specific type of brain surgery to repair the Semicircular Canal Dehisense (SCD). This surgery, however, is in the distant future and cannot be performed until after her currently present brain swelling improves.

Among the doctors that Lynn has been seeing, one is a specialist in Dallas who has extensive experience treating the very type of injury Lynn has.  She has experienced some improvements while in his care, but there is still a lot of work to be done.  She needs additional in-person therapies to make significant progress, which we hope will not only accelerate recovery from cognitive delays and visual challenges that have resulted from the accident, but will also assist with reducing the swelling in her brain.  This doctor has developed a personalized 6-day, intensive treatment plan that is very promising, and he is quite optimistic. He does however believe that she is at a critical juncture for engaging in this treatment plan and would like her to start this in early December 2020.

That is quickly approaching!

This treatment plan does come at a cost that Lynn and our family are unable to cover, which is the reason I am setting up this Go Fund Me campaign.  We need you!

Lynn lives in Austin, Texas, and her doctor and the treatment facility are in the Dallas, Texas area. In addition to the medical expenses of her treatment, Lynn will also have associated travel, lodging, food, and other potential expenses. For now, we are choosing to focus on raising the funds to help Lynn travel to Dallas, Texas and begin this initial 6-day intensive treatment and other related expenses, as that is the urgent need.  At this time, we anticipate the expenses to be a minimum of $12,000.

Will you please help me in helping Lynn?  She so badly needs access to these treatments in order to continue the healing process and regain as much as possible of what has been lost!

I encourage you to pray for guidance as you make this important decision. Please know that all financial contributions are greatly appreciated, as we all try to get Lynn to Dallas in the next couple of weeks.  Our family is one of faith in the divine love and healing abilities of God, and we sincerely believe that He is leading this.  So if you are one who prays, please keep Lynn in your prayers. It has already been a long, arduous, and costly journey and she has so much further to go. I also ask that you consider re-posting and sharing this campaign with your own friends, families, and sphere of influence, as we come together in supporting Lynn’s journey of recovery and healing.

I sincerely thank you for your love and consideration!
