Update on My Mac’s Recovery Journey

I’m relieved to share that my dad has made it through his surgeries and is off all breathing support! He’s still in the ICU but will soon be transferred to a skilled nursing facility for further care until he’s strong enough for intensive rehab.

While we’re grateful for the progress, he’s still facing significant challenges. Due to his prolonged stay in the ICU, my dad is experiencing extreme delirium, confusion and hallucinations, which makes his recovery even more difficult. On top of that, his insurance will only cover two months of care at 100%, and after that, we’ll be charged daily. The auto insurance from the accident is also fighting to cover medical expenses, and my sister and I are covering hotel and Airbnb costs just to be close by and ensure he’s getting the care and family support he needs.

On Monday November 25th , my dad, Richard "Mac" Trench, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident while visiting friends in Arizona. He has sustained numerous life-threatening injuries, including a broken pelvic ring, shattered hip joint, 2 broken arms, fractured ribs and several neck vertebrae, internal bleeding, brain bleeds and significant blood loss. He is currently hospitalized on a ventilator and will be undergoing several intense surgeries and will require a long hospital stay followed by months of rehabilitation.

The road to recovery is going to be long, with extensive surgeries and a stay in a rehabilitation center. Following that, my dad will need 24/7 care in a group home for an unknown amount of time. The medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and temporary living expenses are overwhelming, and our family is struggling to manage these financial burdens.
