Help support Mateo on his medical Journey

On February 4th 2022 I went in to my OBGYN for a routine check-up and ultrasound. During my ultrasound It was noticed that our sons legs weren’t matching with the rest of the length of his body. Unfortunately there was no time for a a deeper study because at the same appointment I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and was immediately sent to the hospital for monitoring. I was able to hold on for four additional days before my placenta unexpectedly ruptured and I was immediately sent into an emergency C section to save Mateos life. On February 8th 2022 Mateo Ramirez was brought into this earth 2 months early. Our son was born not breathing and it is still unknown how long he was without oxygen. Thankfully the amazing NICU team was there to quickly get him the help he needed.
Once I recovered and Mateo was stable enough we were finally able to meet him. It was then we were approached by his Doctor and told that our son was diagnosed with Achondroplasia. Achondroplasia is the most common form of dwarfism and although it isn’t life threatening our sons diagnosis along with being born premature has made recovering very difficult for him.
From the beginning we knew our son was a fighter we just didn’t know how long and challenging his battle would be. After 79 days of fighting his hardest in the NICU Mateo was finally able to come home. Unfortunately so much is still unknown about Mateo’s condition and he still faces many difficult battles and will continue to until he’s older and stronger. There is currently no end in sight for how long Mateo will need all the extra support he is on right now but until then we as his parents will do any and everything we can to do to support him along the way. This means as his mom I won’t be able to return back to my place of work until his condition stabilizes. We are currently raising funds to help cover many of the unexpected medical bills we are left with and so that I can continue to remain Mateos number one care provider.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has followed along on this journey with us. Your continued support has been the only thing that has gotten us through this incredibly difficult and stressful time.
