Help support Mike Rodger's dream of going to NYU!

Peace Beloveds!!

My name is Mike Rodgers. I am 36 years old, live in Brooklyn, NY and I am beginning my first semester at the NYU School of Professional Studies this fall (2023). I need to complete 2-3 years of my Associates degree and will be on track to receive my Masters in Social Work and become a therapist. We all know how expensive education is in this country and I am trying to take the best route to financially get myself through school without perpetuating the cycle of historical financial trauma among Black people. So I need your help!

With your support, I will challenge myself by furthering my education and breaking through my own “glass ceiling” with the goal of becoming a social worker in order to help people that look like me. As a Black man, I know that people who look like me are highly underrepresented as mental health professionals. I see this as an opportunity to effect change by furthering my education in order to continue to help folks heal and step into their power. Completion of the program at NYU will move me further along the road towards greater self-realization and achievement. This program will aid me in stepping into my own power, just as I have supported others in my career as a life/recovery coach. I hope, as well, that in advancing my own story through this program I can inspire other young people of color to go to or return to school, and demonstrate that we too deserve the opportunity to sit in historic institutions like NYU. With this opportunity to attend NYU, I will embody my enthusiasm for learning and grow my identity as someone who is capable of achieving academic goals and inspiring others to do the same.

This money will go towards:

- Tuition costs ($7,000 per class)

- School supplies

- Books

- A new computer

This financial goal will hopefully get me through my first semester so I can have time to continue researching other forms of financial support.
