Hello friends,
My name is Noah Armstrong, and I've been diagnosed with stage 2 testicular cancer, as well as a rare internal fungal infection called peritoneal blastomyces . I'm a father of 2 daughters my beautiful 8 year old Coralyn, and her newborn sister Lila (who was born during the middle of this mess) with my wonderful lady Corey who has been my rock. I am currently a self employed builder with my company Noah Guy LLC.
In January of 2024 I checked into the ER with symptoms of a swollen fluid filled belly, painful toes and feet and a swollen testicle. I was scanned and determined it was cancer in my testicle and rushed to another hospital where my testicle was surgically removed. They also drained the fluid from my belly and ran it through a litany of tests, 2 weeks later it came back as positive for the fungus blastomyces. It was rough, not only was I now stressed out about the cancer I find I have a fungus colony growing inside me.
Another 2 weeks goes by my stomach symptoms worsen the fluid returned and now my belly was painful and tender. With no way to reach an infectious disease doctor I once again checked my self into the ER to force immediate treatment for the blastomyces. The hospital starts me on this atomic green drip of anti-fungal medicine. I'm scanned again with findings of peritoneal carcinomatosis in my belly which is deadly cancer. To say I was shook up by this is an understatement. Luckily, or unluckily the blastomyces was known (about 6 cases ever) to infect the peritoneal cavity where it mimics that exact cancer under an mri or CT scan. This fungus was all over my insides causing my body to react with ascites or fluid, to overfill the cavity. I was in the hospital for 5 days scanned head to pelvis and finally released on a regiment of liquid anti-fungal for 6 months to 2 years and a rare diagnosis (0.14% or all cases) of blatomyces of the peritoneum. This blastomyces diagnosis complicated any other treatment that I could receive. the medicine alone had a list of negative drug interactions that was 20 or more pages .
I end up getting another surgery in march called a Diagnostic laparoscopy with peritoneal biopsies. Which proved it wasn't cancer in my gut but indeed a fungal infection was proven. I'm put on observation for cancer, but my tumor markers start to rise. In June I do another scan and blood test and evidence of the cancer has returned I'm now undergoing chemo for 12 weeks. which is 5 days of chemo with 2 weeks rest for a total 12 weeks. i have a Port surgically inserted in my chest for direct access to my heart. The chemo is called BEP and it makes me feel like I'm in a state of perpetual hangover and nauseous. Adding on top a bone drug injection on every 6th day of treatment. Which causes me to have excruciating pain in all my extremities picture what its like to turn into a werewolf. As well as aggravating an existing teeth problem. I will not be working during this time for various reasons but mainly to focus on healing my body and closely watching this insane fungal infection as well as my body starts to weaken due to the chemo. I'm trying to raise what money i can recover from canceling jobs so i can continue to support my family of 4. I'm asking for your help and support to continue with this journey so I can say F*ck CANCER and F*ck Blastomyces!
Thank you sincerely,
Noah Armstrong
