Help Support Our Triplets
Many people have asked how they could help our family and we have found now it's time for us to ask for help. Our triplet babies Lucy, Jack and William were born at 29 weeks. They are having a difficult time learning to feed in the NICU and with medical bills piling up we find ourselves in a rough season.
Mom has been with babies in the NICU for 88 days so far, while Dad is home 150 miles away working and waiting for their discharge. As stressful as this is, our return home is sure to be filled with chaos and so much love.
Our second vehicle won't last much longer and the expenses of our 3 little ones don't allow for any budget for a used car that could fit 3 car seats. We have accumulated extra cost of being so far from home and making time for Dad to be with the babies when his work schedule allows. We thank God for health insurance but prepare for the high deductible and associated bills that will come quick enough. Our family out of pocket max is $8,000 and we are sure to reach that before even leaving the hospital. Just looking at the essentials of formula, diapers and wipes each year will cost $2,600.. for each baby! While this is somewhat manageable, it leaves no room for any other newborn items.
Any contributions will be carefully used for the necessities our family truly needs. We don't buy expensive or brand new items so even the smallest of contributions will go far. Thank you for any help while we wait for the babies to strengthen and go home. Below is additional information on the journey our babies have had so far..
At 20 weeks William was diagnosed with absent end diastolic flow. This means his blood returning to the placenta would pause occasionally, at 28 weeks it paused with each heart beat and at 29 weeks it reversed. With the discovery that it was reversed we planned the cesarian section for the follow day at 29 weeks and 3 days. Lucy arrived first at 2 lbs 7 oz, followed by Jack at 2 lbs 6 oz and William at 2 lbs 4 oz. William was on a ventilator for 5 days and eventually joined his siblings on CPAPs. As the days and weeks went on Jack took the lead as the big boy followed by William and then Lucy. They are all of oxygen support and breathing well on their own. They are working on learning to feed which is very slow due to prematurity and being multiples. Generally babies leave the NICU close to their due date, which was on March 23. We find ourselves grateful for the health of our babies but at a loss for what our future looks like. We hope the NICU time is closing in but each week brings another week of trying times waiting for them to get strong enough for home. Currently Lucy and William are well over 6 lbs and Jack is over 7 lbs. If they aren't able to get all of their food by mouth we may be going home with feeding tubes. The Doctors have warned this is difficult with 1 baby and completely unmanageable with 3. Our prayers are to get all 3 feeding by mouth to avoid surgery for for these little babies.
Thank you again for helping our family find some comfort in the difficult times ahead. Dad will have 1 week of PTO to use when they come home and then it will be mom and the triplets figuring out how to manage life. We look forward to this adventure with concern for managing finances waiting for the day Mom can return to part time work to help the family.
If you aren't able to contribute we ask to please share our story with anyone who may be in a position to assist us. Of course prayers for our family are greatly appreciated! Lucy, Jack and William are in God's hands. God is so good.
update! We are home and getting adjusted. Jack is on the NG feeding tube while he learns to take all his feeds by mouth, Lucy and William continue to grow and adjust well to life at home. Thank you for continued support as life at home somehow is more expensive than the NICU.
