For those who may not know, top surgery creates a flat chest and is a procedure commonly sought out by non-binary and trans-masculine people.
After gathering letters of support from my doctors for this medically necessary procedure, I have found a trustworthy surgeon in my area and have been approved for this gender-affirming surgery.
This procedure is will be life-changing for me. It is very challenging to write about, but I have been waiting a long time for this chance to start my life in full. I am thankful for this opportunity to be my authentic self and have congruence with my body after years of gender dysphoria.

Gender-affirmation procedures are not widely covered by insurance, which creates a substantial financial barrier for trans people who are hoping to improve their quality of life. I am no exception to this. The co-insurance arrangement I have through my school leaves me with a significant out-of-pocket cost for this surgery. With the deposit paid and the money I have saved in anticipation of this procedure, there is still an estimated out-of-pocket cost of $7,800.
