Help support Sandi in her battle with cancer

Donation protected
Hi my name is Lacey Scott and I’m fundraising in hopes of supporting my best friend Sandi in her journey with cancer. On October 30th, 2022 my loving, youthful, beautiful, 46 year old bestie, Sandi Burgeson (Lynde) received a shocking medical diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

As expected, Sandi took this news with a courage and positivity, determined to fight this diagnosis with everything she has. Surrounded by love and the support of everyone that knows her, she remains optimistic while she is recovering from her first round of treatment, awaiting the second round. Today, after finding out that the first round of chemo was successful, she also uncovered that her fight will be continuing well into 2023 as she awaits a donor match. Until a donor is found, she will have to continue enduring rounds of chemo as an outpatient. Once a match is secured, she will be sent to Calgary for a bone marrow transplant which will take around 3 months to complete.

Unfortunately, even after a lengthy winter marathon of fighting, her chances of being cured even after the transplant, are 50-60%. As expected, Sandi’s current philosophy is “I’m not done living” which is reassuring and filled with hope although we know it’s not going to be easy. Another unfortunate part of her diagnosis relates to the fact that this was brought on not by anything she did or played a part in, rather a genetic mutation. The treatment journey for an APL patient, unlike most cancers, is very severe leaving her unable to work or care for her two beautiful daughters. A real challenge for a single mother.

Due to this, we are humbly requesting your support to assist with the unexpected costs she’ll incur over the next 6 months. Yes, our healthcare in Canada is top notch and Sandi’s employer is behind her completely, however she will be experiencing a multitude of extra expenses while traveling and attending daily appointments and treatments through this lengthy process.

Although her prognosis is unknown at this point, we know that Sandi has the strength and support required to beat this and will continue to live a long, happy, adventurous life and will continue to be the amazing breath of fresh air we all love.

All monies raised will be used for both Sandi’s additional and unexpected living expenses as well as her immediate family’s living expenses during her treatment period. If any portion of the funds are not spent, they will be used to support Bone Marrow blood cancer research.

In the words of Sandi “love is only thing that’s real, never take your life and love for granted”. She will get through this and will continue to be our inspiring, loving ray of sunshine.

We are beyond grateful for donations of any denomination.
Thank you kindly,
Lacey Scott
