Meet Mike Smith: A true American hero and a dedicated 30 year Army retiree, Mike served our nation with unwavering commitment and bravery. With over 10 combat tours and a storied career in Special Forces, Mike retired as a Special Forces Command Sergeants Major, having led his men through some of the toughest conditions imaginable. From his time as a Special Forces Team Sergeant in the 1st Special Force Commander’s InExtremis Force (CIF) in Iraq to his role as a Company Sergeants Major in Afghanistan with AOB 1310, Mike has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and courage.

During his distinguished service, Mike was known for his belief in the autonomy of his men, always standing by them through thick and thin. Whether it was visiting them in austere conditions or fighting for their cause, Mike’s dedication to his team was unparalleled. He didn’t just lead; he lived alongside his soldiers, understanding their struggles and championing their rights.

Now, Mike Faces His Toughest Challenge Yet: He is currently battling stage two squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil. Despite his immense resilience and fortitude, Mike is facing a daunting fight against cancer. In order to focus on his recovery, Mike has made the difficult decision to forgo paid leave, opting to use TRICARE for his treatment while managing dental expenses and copays on his own. He is determined to bypass the VA’s waiting times to ensure he gets the timely care he needs.
