Hi, my name is Jenn, also known as Jenn Got Cakes.... Your Neighborhood Cake Dealer
I have been a custom cake artist for around 7 years. I love what I do, but I know I have a bigger purpose in life than just making birthday cakes and celebration cakes. And that came to fruition when my 5-year-old type one diabetic daughter beat stage 4 kidney cancer in June 2021. Our family received a lot of support from the community, I knew I had to find a way to give back.
The past two years I have taken every opportunity to make cakes for families when faced with tragedies, at no cost to them. I have made many cakes for people and families that have suffered tragic losses. Typically, these are cakes for celebrations of life, or bereaved parents to honor a lost child on a heavenly birthday. When I do these projects, I do not accept any payments or even tips from these families. I have seen the reactions from these families during some of their darkest times. Such a small act of kindness can be a light in the dark for them. While some may say it's just a cake, I know it's much more than that to these people. And this is where I came up with the idea for Sprinkle Gang!
The mission behind Sprinkle Gang is to provide people/families/children with custom cakes for celebrations of life, birthdays, and important milestones like completing chemo.... but also, any big reason to be celebrated! And at no cost to the families.
I will continue to do this work for my hometown Portland Oregon, but my plan is way bigger than the pacific northwest. I currently have 50k TikTok followers @theonlyjenngotcakes, and I would like to travel to different states, wherever I may be needed to provide my services to others. I will be documenting my journeys through social media, so people can know exactly what they are supporting and also learning about these families. It also gives me an opportunity to help families that may be in need of more support by shedding light on a tragic situation in hopes of raising funds to help them with expenses they may have, and don't have the resources or ability to gain the attention they may need.
Once my nonprofit is well known I would hope to get support from businesses to back my vision, by possibly even just donating products for the production of these cakes for the families. I would also like to connect with bakers across America that would like to join Sprinkle Gang and commit to serving their community by doing a cake or two for a family in need or child each month.
While filing the paperwork to start a nonprofit may not be much, it will take more than filing forms to get this up and running the proper way I envision. The funds will cover any legal fees, ensure I can cover monthly costs that usually come from taking orders. And for travel fees to do work out of state. At a minimum I believe $25,000 will ensure all needs can be met for at least 6 months, until I can start receiving grants and other funding for the nonprofit.
I also make faux cake decor and have started making items to sell to put the funds towards the startup of Sprinkle Gang. I am so passionate about this and know it will touch many people's lives by just the smallest gesture of kindness. Yeah, having a cool birthday cake is memorable. But what about the child that may be fighting something, and this may be their last birthday. or the mother who recently lost a child, and they're celebrating their child still to honor them. Maybe a mother who had a rough life and was incarcerated, but now is successful and opening a brick and mortar? There are so many reasons to celebrate others!
If you can help fund this amazing dream I have I can promise you, you won't be disappointed and you can follow along and see where your donation has gone! Thank you so much for the time you've taken to read about my dream and helping bring it to life!
