Ben and Laura Cuthbertson and their eldest son Christian have already faced the worst nightmare a young family could imagine. They stood beside their son and little brother Micah when he was diagnosed with cancer at just three years old.

 

Micah epitomised courage. He was wise beyond his years and rallied more strength than a child ever should, to smile for his family on his worst days. Ben, Laura, and Christian lost their beautiful boy Micah on 11 January 2013. He was just five years old.

 

Two and a half years later, Christian became a big brother for the second time when Ben and Laura welcomed their third little boy Asher to the family. Alongside their ever-present grief, Ben and Laura built a beautiful life with their boys Christian and Asher.

 

Two days ago, the Cuthbertson family’s world was shattered in the most incomprehensible way when six-year-old Asher was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The tumour in Asher’s chest is the size of a rockmelon, wrapped around his heart, major blood vessels and airways. Asher has already started intensive chemotherapy.

 

Doctors told Ben and Laura that Micah and Asher’s cancers are completely unrelated and the result of an unfathomable chance. Ben, Laura, and their boys are staying positive as a family that Asher will fight this and win. But they are understandably devastated, traumatised, and exhausted.

Childhood cancer can devastate a family financially. Ben and Laura simply shouldn’t have to go through this again. We hope this page will give people a practical way to support the Cuthbertson family, without imposing on them, so Ben and Laura can focus their energy on supporting Asher and Christian. 

Our hope is that your donations will allow Ben and Laura to focus on the full-time care and support both boys need so much right now, and will continue to need for a long time to come. 

 

Please also remember the Cuthbertson family have kindly asked that before visiting or coming into contact with Ben, Laura, Christian or Asher you let them know about any illnesses (however mild) that you may have been exposed to. Asher’s immune system will be severely compromised by the chemotherapy and it’s vital that we do everything possible to keep him safe.
