THE DiSCiPLiNES, the band I formed with three fantastic Norwegian musicians -- Bjorn Begene on guitar,  Baard Helgeland on bass and Claus Heiberg on drums (later replaced by Ralla Vilnes) was largely active from 2007-2011-- we released 2 critically acclaimed albums and toured Europe and North America. It was a great run, and I'm proud of our accomplishments. The story could have ended here, but it recently took a challenging turn that could mean that this music, which we worked so hard on, could virtually disappear -- a terrible thing for any musician's legacy. Unfortunately, another artist has deemed our name as too similar to theirs and is taking legal steps to pursue their claim. We need to respond, and register our name as its own trademark, which we think will be successful, to end the dispute. This in turn requires lawyers, and that quickly gets expensive. We are pursuing resolution in as reasonable, and non-confrontational a manner as possible but as the band has been inactive for some years we have virtually no income, and we are hoping that our fans might come through with some support. Even if you are not a fan of that band specifically but you admire my work -- I could use your help, as these legal costs definitely impact my personal situation and my ability to survive as an independent musician.
