Help support the Gerber Family & their COVID Loss

Friends, Family, and Good Neighbors:
As you may or may not know, our family recently lost our rock, leader, and father (Wild) Bill Gerber. He was suddenly taken by the Coronavirus after it infected both him and his wife of 52 years, Barbara. While Barbara was able to recover and be discharged from the hospital, the very next day our father’s condition worsened and he was gone within a day. This was unbelievably tragic for our Mom, who is still recovering herself and in mourning and shock over our loss.
About Bill: Bill was a beacon of hope and love to the Rockford community, active in several churches as he slowly retired from being a pastor, and helmed a non-profit recovery home for the addicted. The amount of lives he’s touched in his many years of service is countless, and the initial outpouring of sorrow, support, and love for him has been overwhelming. He made “fishers of men” to so many, and wore his Christian values on his sleeve. He served our country in the Vietnam war, served the community as a volunteer police chaplain, pastor, and assistant to the homeless, and served his family as a mentor. His whole life was in service to others, the most essential Christian tenet he held close to his heart. He was the best father to his three children and 4 grandchildren that anyone could ask for, and passed on his values to all of us.
Aftermath and Request: To make matters worse, as they were both in the hospital their city in Rockford experienced a deep freeze, and their house was vacant and unused. When we came back to the home after saying goodbye, the hot water heater broke and pipes burst leading to water back up in the home and no water. As we tried to process this fresh grief, our family had to navigate calls to plumbers and deal with these issues. The financial blow was significant, and with Barb unable to work the bills are piling up.
It is with great humility that we ask for any financial support to help my mother as she takes time to heal and process this enormous loss. Our mother is pure love, and is also very worried about what’s to come as she faces a future without her husband of 52 years. We ask that this burden not trouble her, with any and all small contributions you could make. We know if you’ve read this, Bill, Barb, or their kids have touched your life in some way. Please know we love you all, and feel your love and support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your thoughts and prayers, and may God bless you all. Sincerely,
The Gerber Family
