PLEASE HELP US NAME LAWRENCE'S FUTURE INTERCHANGE AT K-10 WAKARUSA IN KRIS' HONOR!!

Kris was a dedicated and and loyal public servant of the Kansas Department of Transportation for thirty-three years. Creating more efficient and safer roadways for Kansans, along with anyone who traveled through our humble state, was his lifelong passion! Kris cared deeply about his family, coworkers, professional colleagues, and community. The K-10 South Lawrence Trafficway (SLT) Expansion Project was one of his final projects, and held a special place in his heart.
The SLT Expansion groundbreaking was held on October 2, 2024. At the ceremony, Kansas Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed mentioned our effort to name the exit at 27th and Wakarusa Street the "KRIS NORTON MEMORIAL INTERCHANGE" in his honor. Kris and his wife Susie moved their growing family to their home in Sunflower Park in 2002. They raised five children there, just a few blocks away from the interchange he would eventually design. Kris It was lovingly dubbed "The Norton Special".
