My name is Renee Pack Carpenter. I am creating this GoFundMe for my friend Tina Shough McGhee and her husband Donald, daughter Logan, and son Gavin, with their permission to assist in finances due to medical expenses.
Tina has been a fighter for a while now, but Tina's fight began way before her cancer diagnosis. A while back, Tina had a heart attack that should've taken her life, but God had other plans for her. What should've taken her life that day was a devine intervention that led her on a greater path with a remarkable relationship with God. Tina turned to God and her life was forever changed in the most positive way. I feel God was preparing Tina to be strong in her faith to be able to tackle the journey that was yet to come.
Tina's cancer journey began when she was diagnosed with cervical and uterine cancer. After receiving treatment, prayers for healing, faith, and God on her side, she beat it . But as we all know, cancer can rear it's ugly head.
A couple of weeks ago she went to have a biopsy done on some areas the doctors found in her lungs during a PET scan. It came back as cervical cancer of the lungs, Stage 4. After an appointment with a OB/GYN surgical oncologist, she didn’t get the news that she and her family had hoped for. The plan going forward is to do an aggressive form of chemotherapy. They plan to use 5 different types of chemotherapy. She will have a very long day of chemo every 3 weeks, and a PET scan after every 3 weeks.
Her plan is to do at least 9 weeks of this to give it a shot. If it is not helping, she plans to stop the chemo at that point, (her decision). She was told there is about a 13-15% chance the cancer will go into remission. With treatment she may get 18 months. Without it, only 6-12 months. She was also told that the cancer will just move from one spot to another.
This has been very difficult to hear for her and her family. She and her family are understandably upset. The first thing that came to Tina's mind after hearing the news was that she will never get to meet her grandchildren. However, on the flip side, it comforts her to know that she knows she will go to Heaven.
These are Tina's words "This is such a hard blow to me and my family and I ask that you pray for my husband, my children, my parents, and my brother and his family. I am not accepting this as the end. I know that God is using me for His purpose and I believe that He is the best physician! He CAN heal me and that is what I will be praying for and believing in. I hope you all will pray and believe for a miracle too! I appreciate each and every one of you for caring for and praying for me through this entire ordeal. I have a ton of emotions going on and I am understandably scared. I am so glad that I got my life together and when I do die, I know I am going to Heaven. It sure makes things a little easier. I hope that each of you are as sure about your salvation as I am about mine. It is peace of mind that no one or no amount of money can buy. I will try to keep everyone informed as much as I can. I love you all and God does too ♥️"
Not only has this been emotionally draining for her and her family, it has also been financially draining. Trying to beat cancer is expensive, even with insurance. It's a one income family since Tina is obviously unable to work and she has lost her secondary Medicaid insurance. Medical expenses so far have left a huge debt for them. Her husband will obviously need to take time off work, and with elevated gas prices, going to and from appointments/treatments, will add to their finances.
A little goes a long way, even if it's a dollar. Prayers, thoughts and well wishes from you are just as appreciated. Tina and her family rely heavily on prayer and believe God is the ultimate healer. She and her family would like to thank you all for your support.
