Last week, because of the coronavirus outbreak, The Standard Barbershop made the impossible, but responsible, decision to temporarily close. Today, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam mandated that all barbershops in the state of Virginia close for a minimum of 30 days. We are humbly asking our community to help financially support our team at this very difficult time.
Although new facts about the coronavirus are breaking daily, one thing is certain: the most effective way we can slow the spread of this virus, and prevent overwhelming the medical community, is to practice social distancing. This is impossible to do in a barbershop. Close contact is required for barbers to do their work and that is currently unsafe.
A barber’s pay is commission based, which means that they do not get paid when they are not at work. There are no PTO, sick leave or telework options for barbers. The shop being closed for 30 days will be devastating for our staff financially. Even though our shop is closed, our team still needs to sustain themselves and their families, make rent and pay their bills. This is why we are asking our community to help support them. Everything raised will be split equally between each team member.
We know that times are tough for everyone. Any financial support you can offer will be greatly appreciated. We also ask that everyone share this Go Fund Me with as many people as possible.
