Fundraising for a Friend in need,
For those of you who know Tien Polonidis she has always been ‘the boss lady’, a lover and leader of her work, sporting activities and she definitely wears the pants in her relationship with her amazing husband Jim (LOL)..
But those who had the opportunity to become her friend would know that she is a true leader in friendship.
Over the numerous years we’ve known Tien, she has ALWAYS been generous with her time, just to say 'hi’, to party at a drop of a hat, to support, to listen and to give her heartfelt advice.
In early 2018 she was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer. It was very difficult news for her to take, for her family and her friends, especially when this type of cancer doesn’t usually affect people her age.
Our thoughts were… “This doesn’t happen to people we know right?” And she had just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. However cancer has affected many people and touched almost all of us who have experienced someone they know battling this disease.
But in typical Tien style, she faced this challenge head on. Over the past 2 years she has undertaken chemo treatment every fortnight, attended countless hospital appointments and undergone clinical trials. During this period she has fought hard to keep a positive mindset and has been the most courageous, inspiring and resilient person we have ever met.
Although the clinical trial was not a success, the battle is not over. Tien has recently started a new treatment which has been shown to have successfully improved and extended the life expectancy in patients. This treatment comes at a price though - $16,000 every 28 days to be exact.
Although the pharmaceutical company has approved a compassionate discount of 50%, this still means it will cost her family $8,000 every month to stay on this drug. Financial burden is not another thing this family needs during this battle.
The thought of losing someone you are close to is too hard to imagine, so her support team are kickstarting a go fund me page to help her raise money so she can receive the much needed treatment for survival.
There's no set target as this will be an ongoing fundraiser for the duration of her treatment.
