Help Support Tom Smith’s Family

FROM SERENA:
My name is Serena Green, and I founded this GoFundMe along with my dad's CalFire colleagues to raise funds for my mom and nephews in the aftermath of my dad, Tom Smith, being killed while trying to protect California from its many wildfires.

On July 23, 2024 my dad, Tom Smith, left for work knowing he was going to be sent up north towards the Humboldt area to help fight the ongoing California wildfires as a Lead for his hangar. At approximately 1115, his plane crashed while a new pilot was trying to land and he was killed, leaving an absolutely devastated family and a helicopter program that will never be the same.

Aside from my dad's untimely death leaving behind my mom and three adult children who are all crushed beyond measure, he was raising my two young nephews and had a home he was providing for.

Further, the day my dad was killed, the company (via policy) cut their health insurance, leaving the option for my mom to pay into an extremely expensive cobra policy for her and my nephews to have access to basic medical care. They are now otherwise vulnerable.

My siblings and I are actively figuring out how to get my mom and nephews through this tragedy while mourning my dad ourselves, but we are hoping to raise funds to cover basic household expenses and cobra insurance for the foreseeable timeframe.

Your generous donations will help take care of these basic needs while we are going through the HR process with CalFire and until we can figure out insurance policies for the people my dad was still supporting.

My family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for your time and consideration.

FROM CALFIRE:
Help Support Tom Smith’s Family
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with heavy heart that we share the sad news of the passing of our dear friend and coworker, Tom Smith. Tom was a passionate, dedicated helicopter mechanic with CAL-FIRE / Amentum. As a subject matter expert, he was invaluable to our team, always willing to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand. His sudden loss has left a profound void in our hearts and in the lives of those who knew him.

Tom leaves behind his beloved family, who are now facing not only the emotional burden of his loss but also the financial challenges that come with such an unexpected tragedy. We have created this GoFundMe campaign to support Tom’s family during this incredibly difficult time in hopes of covering expenses, medical bills, and to provide some financial stability as they navigate the days ahead.

How You Can Help:
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference and will be deeply appreciated by Tom's family. Your generosity will help ease their financial burden allowing them to focus on healing and remembering the wonderful moments they shared with Tom.

Donate: Please consider donating to this campaign. Every bit helps.
Share: Even if you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your network would mean the world to us.
Remembering Tom
Tom was known for his kindness, his work ethic, and his unwavering support for his colleagues. He brought joy and laughter to the office and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His memory will live on in the stories we share and the lives he touched.

We thank you for your support during this difficult time. Let’s come together to honor Tom’s legacy and support his family in their time of need.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Steve Torres, Joseph Gogue, Kevin Otis, Ray Kreider
