Help Support Tye - A Journey of Hope & Compassion
Donation protected
Tye Newberry is my dad. He has been 'unwell' for about 2 years. Over a short period, he has become unable to work, drive, make himself breakfast and perform other daily tasks. With dozens of doctor visits, tests ordered, and blood drawn, finding a cause for all these physical changes has been challenging. After getting denied short-term disability twice we finally saw a neurologist for a second opinion. After noticing what appeared to be nerve damage in his feet and legs he determined it was probably ALS. It's been emotional for our whole family and I do not know if I will ever play golf with my dad again. I am thankful for our doctors' help but as a family, we are devastated by the news. We are facing a challenging battle with a disease that has no cure (yet). My dad had always been the primary source of income for my family. I know it's taken a huge toll on my mom with medical co-pays and a mortgage. I wanted to express gratitude for the support and encouragement we have received so far.
About ALS
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) progresses through three stages: early, middle, and late. In the early stage, there is mild muscle weakness and twitching. The middle stage involves significant loss of muscle function, affecting mobility and daily activities. The late stage is the most severe, with profound muscle weakness, impaired breathing and swallowing, and limited communication. The urgent need for medical intervention, specialized equipment, and caregiving support is needed.
Tye’s Story
Tye has a wife, Dayla and three daughters: Caleigh, Brooklynn and Brianna. He has worked at Cherry Creek Mortgage (now Guild) with his sister Tammy for over 16 years. He was originally hired by his mother-in-law Patty a long time ago. He's always loved helping others. If you know my dad you know that he's a sports fanatic. Basketball, golf and football. He has a personal achievement of winning "the rock' trophy multiple times that we play for when we travel to golf courses & the Bill Branch trophy he plays for with his friend Dominic. Although he holds these trophies I'm impressed my dad can swing and miss the ball but still manage to score in the 70s and 80s. :) My dad has the courage and determination to fight this disease and Tye remains an inspiration to me, my two sisters and my mom to stay so positive.
The Challenges We Face
There is a battle ahead. Along with my dad's health declining, we are working on keeping him comfortable in his home. Financially, my dad has been unable to work for about a year and a half and has medical co-pays and other expenses. My mom had a part-time job that turned into a full-time job and has been picking up extra hours to try and support (although that makes it challenging to be at home to take care of my dad). A mortgage payment, adaptive equipment, home modifications, and ongoing care is on the horizon. It's so important we provide my dad with a comfortable and safe environment.
How You Can Make a Difference
This gofundme is set up to help my mom and dad with the back pay of medical co-pays from the enormous amount of tests and doctors he has seen in the past two years. It will help alleviate some of the financial burden and home modifications. We have been so quiet about the situation for so long due to not knowing the diagnosis. It means a ton to my dad knowing that people care about him. Donations of any amount, as every contribution count and brings hope.
Conclusion:
We have so much gratitude for the love, support, and generosity received. We would love for you to share our campaign with your network to expand its reach and impact. Thank you to everyone standing alongside us during this challenging journey. We can raise awareness and fight ALS together.
With Love,
Caleigh
