Support Vakaloa Beach Resort and staff

A week ago, my family and the people of Kanokupolu in Tonga survived a near-death experience and I thank God for giving them another opportunity to live.
My parents, John and Marian Tukuafu, own a business in Tonga called Vakaloa Beach Resort located in Kanokupolu. In 2018, they were hit by cyclone Gita which caused a lot of damage; however, they managed to rebuild out of their own expenses. Two years later, they faced another Cyclone Harold, leaving majority of the building completely destroyed. Nevertheless, with high hopes they rebuilt Vakaloa again.

Over the years, my parents built good relationships with their staff and even accommodated some. They shared a close bond with the people of Kanokupolu and did in their best interest desired to create a better future for the Kingdom of Tonga. In doing so, they taught children from primary age cultural dances where they performed every Wednesday and Friday at Vakaloa. As a source of income and help provide for their families. They were also able to gather the youth of Hihfo together, and they would participate in the Gala days and Christmas carol nights.

After the tsunami hit Tonga, Vakaloa was annihilated. As a result, some of the staff who lived in Vakaloa are left desolate. Unfortunately, this also means that all employees and performers are of no livelihoods. Vakaloa holds a special place in our hearts, and any donations will be much appreciated. My parents are the most hardworking people I know, and no words can explain how much effort they put into building Vakaloa and its community.

We have been overwhelmed with messages of love and support from families and friends from all over the world.

All donations will go to John and Marian Tukuafu and the community of Kanokupolu.

Thank you all again for your love and support.
‘Ofa atu to you all from the Tukuafu family.

My name is Vika Tukuafu, and I am the daughter of John and Marian Tukuafu. My three younger siblings and I were sent to Australia after cyclone Gita. Since Covid, we haven’t seen our parents and our younger sister for the past two years. As a result of the volcano eruption and tsunami, we were restless, worried, and scared, not knowing how our family is but only through God we find comfort. We understand that everyone is going through a tough time, so please don’t feel the need to donate.
Once again, Malō Aupito for your support
