Help Support Vincent Kyle Weir

Hi All, please help me in fundraising for Vincent Kyle Weir after his life-saving liver transplant on November 8th, 2021.

On September 11th I received a call from a doctor at Samaritan telling me Vincent had 90 days to live. She said it could be as few as 1-2 months. This was an incredibly heartbreaking moment.

Since that day many miracles have happened. Lisa, Vincent's mom came to live with us immediately. Together, we desperately tried to get him on the liver transplant list...a very difficult list to get on. If you are lucky enough to get on the list there are no guarantees you will receive a liver. In fact, 1 of 5 people on the list die while waiting. It has been a whirlwind since his end-stage cirrhosis of the liver diagnosis in early June. We both quit drinking alcohol together on June 23rd...the night he was first hospitalized for bleeding varicies (varicose veins in the esophagus which can bleed out.) He was there for 4 days. Initially, we hoped his condition would improve but once he contracted sepsis after a routine upper-endoscopy his health declined rapidly. It was a miracle that he survived the sepsis alone. His kidneys were failing and we all had to have some difficult conversations. Starting with the dreadful Sept 11th phone call.

Long painful story short...fast forwarding to the good news!...We got the call on Sunday, Nov 7th that he was accepted and officially listed on the liver transplant waiting list. THE NEXT DAY we got the call from OHSU saying they had 2 potentially livers for him. We drove up immediately, both livers found a new home and OHSU saved his life that night.

We've been incredibly fortunate to have so much support from friends, family, doctors & nurses throughout all of this. Insurance has covered most big ticket items but we are really starting to see the small things add up financially. All three of us have been out of work for months, as he's needed constant care. Lisa and I are now taking shifts living in Portland with him as he recovers through February, if not sooner...fingers crossed. He is getting stronger everyday. Did I mention he's had a broken spine throughout all of this? Yep, so he's still in excruciating pain, but with a new liver he can now heal. We are also very happy to announce we are engaged. He proposed in the ICU. We are so thankful for this new chance at life. So thankful for to the donor and their family. Thank you everyone for your support, for your prayers, reminders to breath, for making us laugh when we have nothing left... Thank you for loving Vincent Kyle!!!!
