Help supporting Filo's treatment

I’m reaching out with an urgent request to help my sweet dog, Filo. She’s a 5-year-old rescue who was once a stray in Brazil. Three years ago, she found her forever home with us, and last year, we moved to Canada together. Filo has always been full of life, but recently, her world turned upside down.

At the beginning of September, Filo's breathing changed dramatically, with a rapid respiratory rate and significant effort. I rushed her to the emergency vet, where they discovered fluid around her lungs. After a series of expensive tests that excluded heart disease and cancer, Filo was diagnosed with idiopathic chylothorax—a rare and dangerous condition where lymphatic fluid builds up in her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe.

The first procedure to drain the fluid (thoracocentesis) and the necessary exams cost over $7,000. Sadly, by the end of the month, we had to return to the hospital as her breathing worsened again, requiring another round of treatment and a cost of around $900.

The vets have recommended surgery as the best option to stop this from happening repeatedly. Without it, the condition could become life-threatening. However, the surgery is estimated to cost between $20,000 and $30,000, which is beyond what we can afford, especially since Filo doesn’t have insurance.

We are asking for your support to give Filo the chance to receive the best possible treatment. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us cover the costs of the ongoing care she needs and the potential surgery. We are deeply grateful for your generosity and support.

Estou aqui com um pedido urgente para ajudar minha querida cachorrinha, Filó. Ela tem 5 anos e foi resgatada das ruas no Brasil. Há três anos, ela encontrou seu lar definitivo conosco, e no ano passado nos mudamos para o Canadá. Filó sempre foi cheia de vida e nunca teve nenhum problema de saúde, mas recentemente, sua situação mudou drasticamente.

No início de setembro, a respiração da Filó começou a ficar ofegante e acelerada. Foi então que eu a levei ao veterinário de emergência, onde descobriram que havia líquido ao redor dos pulmões dela. Após uma série de exames super caros que descartaram doenças cardíacas e câncer, Filo foi diagnosticada com quilotórax idiopático – uma condição rara e perigosa em que o líquido linfático se acumula no tórax, dificultando muito sua respiração.

O primeiro procedimento para drenar o líquido (toracocentese) e os exames custaram mais de 7 mil dólares. Infelizmente, no final do mês, tivemos que voltar ao hospital, pois a respiração dela piorou novamente, necessitando de mais um tratamento, que custou mais 900 dólares.

Os veterinários recomendaram uma cirurgia como a melhor opção para impedir que isso aconteça repetidamente. No entanto, a estimativa de custo da cirurgia está entre 20.000 e 30.000 dólares, algo que está além das minhas possibilidades, especialmente porque Filó não tem seguro de saúde.
