Hi, my name is Gina and I’d like to tell you a little about my friend Barbara Amaya. She is a survivor of child sex trafficking and now dedicates her life to fight for the lives and rights of all victims of exploitation trauma. Sadly, Barbara has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) - a type of cancer that starts in certain blood-forming cells of the bone marrow. To continue to battle her cancer she needs costly medication, and she cannot afford the co-pays, the many doctor visits, and monthly living expenses.
She needs your help.
Let me share a little about my friend
Barbara broke her decades long silence in 2012, when she shared with the world how she survived unimaginable and brutal sex trafficking for over a decade in the streets of New York City from the age of 12.
Her childhood was stolen from her.
After escaping from New York City and her evil trafficker, she eventually rebuilt her life, but the consequences of her horrific experiences didn’t leave her - Barbara developed multiple health issues including cancer directly related to the atrocities she endured.
In 2007, Barbara overcame severe uterine cancer and eventual infertility,
Today cancer is trying once again to beat down this strong woman I call my friend, and now with this latest diagnoses I’m very concerned for her.
Barbara Amaya is a kind and wonderful person, who is doing important advocacy work: educating and bringing awareness to others about human trafficking in the United States. Please help her, so that she can continue this work, rather than be finally beaten by this diagnosis.
