Help Susan Ahalt: Wildlife Hero Needs Medical Aid

Susan Ahalt has dedicated her life to animals. As the only licensed wildlife rehabber in the state of Wyoming permitted for all bird species and small mammals, she is a rare gem and resource for this state. For more than 40 years, her property has served as a temporary home for hundreds upon hundreds of animals needing temporary care and rehabilitation. Wildlife rehabbers in all states go without pay or funding, which many people don't realize. Susan's 501(c)3 nonprofit, Ironside Bird Rescue, does solicit donations for the animals in her care, but her position is unpaid and her own property and personal resources are shared and consumed by the rescue work she does.

In recent years, Susan has had some health concerns arise and we all know how costly that can be. With only a very minimal social security income to support herself, any medical bills or property repairs and upkeep, come with a large sacrifice financially for Susan to fit into her budget.

In coming months, Susan will be undergoing some medical trials for heart valve replacement. With Wyoming being such a rural place, even routine doctor visits and especially specialty surgeries, all require out of state travel to either Montana or Colorado. For fuel and/or airfare, co-pays, food and lodging, and potentially reimbursement to those caring for her animal residents while she is recovering, she is going to face some unfair financial strain in the near future.

For a woman who has volunteered her time for the entirety of her life to rehab and care for Wyoming's wildlife and to help out the community, she is long overdue for the community to help her out in return. Yes, she has many donors that contribute to the animals but this fundraiser is for her personally for the incredible lady she is.
