Help Susan Carroll Fight Cancer

Life is unpredictable. On November 4, 2021, at the young age of 39, the beautiful and amazing Susan Carroll went into Urgent Care for what she believed to be a torn rotator cuff in her shoulder and was instead diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer. Her cancer has been confirmed as an Adrenocortical Carcinoma (ACC), a rare and aggressive cancer that had already grown to a 15 cm mass on her adrenal gland, with tumors that have spread to her lungs, liver, and bones.
Anyone who knows Susan will tell you that she is a shining light that lives life to the fullest and loves with all of her heart. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and family and goes above and beyond to take care of others. Despite the long journey she knows she will be facing, she has handled her diagnosis with positivity, grace and charm. It is truly remarkable! She has already undergone surgery on December 13, 2021, to stabilize her left femur with a rod and screws. She has been in the hospital for eight days so far with her right shoulder also in a brace with another fracture caused by the disease. She has just started oral chemotherapy and radiation and is scheduled to begin three more IV chemotherapies in the near future.
Susan is a fairly private person, which is why those of us who love her dearly, her friends and family, have decided to ask for help on her behalf. Although this is organized by me, one of her best friends, this is also being organized on behalf of her family, as Susan has a challenging road ahead of her.
Any funds that we raise will help with the following:
- Medical care and deductibles (doctor's visits, the current and future hospital stays and treatment costs).
- Living expenses and living arrangements closer to the hospital during treatment.
- Any medical and other devices she will have to purchase to assist her during treatment, for physical therapy, and to be able to perform tasks at home while recovering.
Susan is a Paralegal and pursued a new opportunity to advance her career right before her diagnosis, and she does not have a number of the benefits she deserves and would have had at her old law firm. Susan had planned to work during treatment but given how quickly the cancer has spread, she has already had to take some unpaid days off of work. Susan also got diagnosed at the end of the insurance year, so she will have two years of deductibles to pay for during treatment and recovery.
Due to the aggressive nature of her cancer (the doctors predict this cancer has spread in only six months), Susan has thankfully sought treatment from many of the greatest minds in oncology and endocrinology, but unfortunately that also means she will be working with multiple doctors (with lot of costs) and she will need to make arrangements to be close to treatment facilities (UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center) in Los Angeles, which are over two hours from her home. She will be going back and forth daily during rounds of chemotherapy each month. There is a lot to worry about in connection with a cancer diagnosis, but we are hoping to ease some of the financial stress by asking for your help and support.
Anything you can give to assist Susan on her road back to health is appreciated more than words can say and no amount is too small to help. Susan, and her family and friends, appreciate your donations more than words can say. Thank you for giving! ❤️
