HELP SUSAN CHAUDOIR HEAL FROM STAGE3C CANCER

          WHO  IS  SUSAN CHAUDOIR
To know Susan Chaudoir is to know how incongruent it is to find her name and cancer in the same sentence. Susan is a fiercely independent, active 53-year old single woman who has set high goals for herself throughout her life. Her education, environmental and humanitarian interests couldn't be contained within her home state of Wisconsin. She studied and taught throughout the US, Canada and Scotland until she earned her PhD so she could make lasting impacts on the lives of people she deeply cares about. She has called many places around the world "home," and in each place she made concrete contributions to the community while making life long friendships. As an avid biker, she toured around the world and appreciated the natural beauty of the landscape and the internal beauty of the people she met along the way. She knows no strangers and makes friends everywhere she goes. She has always cared for her health, been active climbing mountains, sailing oceans and riding across continents. Susan cares about the role proper nutrition plays in maintaining a healthy body and mind. Yet despite this clean lifestyle, she was diagnosed with Stage 3c adenocarcinoma breast cancer in June 2020.

Now living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susan has found a home. She found a place she wanted to establish roots. She secured a fulfilling position with the New Mexico Department of Public Education. She is surrounded by natures beauty and a culture of like-minded people who share her core values and life style. As best they can, this team of friends, who Susan calls her "Cancer Care Team", have vowed  to help Susan in the absence of her biological family who all live east of the Mississippi River. We, her family, are heartbroken to be separated from Susan in her time of extreme need. As much as we want to hug her and take care of her,  air travel is too risky a proposition  in light of the COVID-19  pandemic. There is heightened stress in the Chaudoir family right now as, in addition to Susan's health crisis, her stepmother is battling her own colon cancer diagnosis. Susan set up a family/friend Facebook group to foster better communication with her loved ones; "Susans Cancer Care Page." Through this medium, Susan can share her treatment status with us and we attempt to  communicate uplifting messages of love, care and hope to support her emotionally.

             HOW CAN WE HELP SUSAN
Although Susan's cancer stage has been categorized as Stage 3c, her oncologist at the University of NM Cancer Care Center is treating it as Stage 4 because of  suspicious lymphatic spread.  A PET scan of her lungs found suspicious cells in  lymph nodes behind the heart and sides of the trachea. It is an aggressive cancer;  and rightly, is being treated aggressively. Susan experienced such negative side  effects from Stage 4 treatment that it landed her in the emergency room right after her first chemo treatment on July 27. Her oncologist has modified the  chemo treatment plan slightly. Instead of a chemo regimen every 3 weeks, Susan will have weekly treatments for the next 9 weeks. As a devoted employee of the NM Dept. of Public Education, Susan wants to continue working, but she has to be realistic about her physical ability to do so. She can take a medical leave, but it is an unpaid leave. Being her own, sole provider, we want to take the burden of  loss of income off her shoulders so she can solely focus on recovering from this illness.  If that job wasn't big enough, Susan is navigating the world of health care and  insurance by herself; researching and securing services that can help in her  recovery and endless insurance claims. After her first chemo treatment, it is  abundantly clear that it is dangerous for Susan to be alone without nursing care on days with peak negative side effects. We want her to have access to this care without worrying  about paying the out-of-pocket expenses.

YOUR FINANCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT WILL HELP SUSAN HEAL
We, Susan's family, will do all we can to financially and emotionally support her on her road to recovery from this illness. It is a LONG  road. If all goes "to plan", we are looking at 21-24 months of treatment. Nine more weeks of chemo  treatments, two months recovery period, double mastectomy surgery, recovery  period, six weeks radiation, twelve months of antibody treatments after which reconstruction surgery will be considered if her body is cancer free for twelve  contiguous months. Daunting? YES! Doable?  YES! WITH ALL OF OUR HELP!!
We realized that there are many people, literally around the world, who would like to support Susan in this health challenge, if they only knew about it. PLEASE SHARE SUSAN'S STORY! We are hopeful to find
people that may have been on the receiving end of her generosity. Susan is accustomed to being the giver in
life, not the receiver. As a matter a fact, she and a friend established a Go Fund Me page called "Preserve Pool Estate at Oxbow Wetland." They secured donations to preserve the Oxbow Wetlands, scenic wetlands and its wildlife near the Rio Grand River from development.
Be assured, all funds raised will be used to support Susan's loss of income from her beloved job, out of pocket medical expenses, deductibles and pharmacy expenses for at least 2 years. We realize many in this country are going through your own financial struggles right now. For you, we are hopeful change is around the corner and we ask you send Susan positive thoughts and prayers.
Whomever is capable of "paying it forward", perhaps in gratitude for your own health, we hope you will give what you can to support Susan. We thank you for supporting her recovery from this inconceivable, but curable disease that she can beat with all of our help.
TOGETHER, "LET'S HELP SUSAN HEAL FROM STAGE 3C CANCER!"
