HELP SUSANTHA'S FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

WHO IS SUSANTHA CHANDRAMALI?

Since 1987, beloved soap opera actress, Susantha Chandramali has delighted Sri Lankan tv audiences on a daily basis. This talented actress has won several awards for Best Actress in television as well as, cinema. In March 2020, Susantha was faced with the most challenging role of her life being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. With early intervention, operations, medicine, and chemotherapy, Susantha overcame this disease. However, it was during her fight that Susantha shined her brightest, she shared her journey with her fellow Sri Lankans. Susantha openly told her story and helped to promote early intervention education and programs to the public. She preached about the importance of monthly self-examinations which can be a lifesaver for both men and women, as it was for her life. In 2021, the doctors believed that Susantha was cancer free.

As of today, Susantha is still a loving wife, devoted mother, and our dear friend. Nevertheless, in January 2023, Susantha was given the worst news her Breast Cancer was back.

HER SECOND BATTLE BEGINS ... in her own words

I am Susantha Chandramali from Sri Lanka, I have served as an actress for more than 35 years in the Sri Lankan industry. I have contributed my acting in various good quality creations in the cinema, stage, and tele dramas. Also, I was engaged in many social activities and served as a volunteer to promote activities related to cancer prevention programs in Sri Lanka.

In March 2020, it was detected that I have breast cancer again. Under efficient treatments and observations of some Sri Lankan doctors, I got chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments and got cured. During this period I had to spend a lot of money on medicine which was highly expensive. (Herceptin 440mg and 330 mg). Even though this medicine was very expensive, with many difficulties, I was able to buy them and complete the treatment.

Unfortunately, in 2023 January, on the instructions of doctors I had to do some medical tests, and again my reports were positive for being diagnosed with breast cancer for the 2nd time. When I heard this I was shocked and felt very sad. Presently, I am under treatment. I am sorry to inform you all that due to the prevailing economic situation in my country of Sri Lanka, and my health conditions. I am not in a position to engage in my career activities. Therefore I have to face lots of difficulties to buy my medicines. Thus Carol Hardacre and my friends from CWY 1985/86 are organizing a fundraising program on GOFUNDME to collect money to help me buy my medicine. After discussing it with me, I agreed and I am really grateful to them and appreciate their effort to save my life.
