I am Sushila Bishwakarma, born and brought up in Yangshila, Morang, a rural village in East Nepal. From an early age photographs have had my attention. Whenever I saw someone with a camera, I felt an instant pull, a mix of wonder and curiosity—they seemed fascinating. Maybe since then I longed to know what it meant to capture a moment, a desire to understand photography.
I have been molding myself in the field of photography since my college days where I was doing my Bachelor’s study in Education. I started with a training course in my village, where I gained insights into this art form. I've been participating in visual storytelling workshops with photo circle , over the past few years. I started weaving stories that resonated with my inner self. Expressing myself through words has never come easily, however now photography has become a tool to find my voice to tell stories that I would otherwise could not tell. I'm learning from my encounters and experiences . I'm learning to understand my community. Let's just say, the study of photography makes me aware of my journeys. I’m still learning, and there’s so much more to explore. I’m eager to stay connected to my roots and continue working in this field.
This year, while continuing my journey in photography, I was honored to be selected for the prestigious Angkor Photo Workshop 2025 in Siem Reap, Cambodia (7 - 16 Feb 2025). Only 20 participants were chosen for this 10-day workshop, which provides free tuition and accommodation. However, participants must cover their airfare and other essential expenses. Unfortunately, my current financial situation doesn’t allow me to manage these costs on my own. The estimated expenses amount to Rs. 200,000 (~1500USD) approximately. Being part of this workshop is nothing short of a dream come true to me. To make this possible, I am reaching out with this fundraising campaign, hoping for your support to take this next step in my journey.
