Help Us Help Annie-Hills of Gold Equine Retirement Sanctuary

Help us help Annie, a 33-year-old retired Polo Pony, find her forever home! Our goal is to cover her first year of feed & farrier, and the intake vet visit.
Did you know a horse can live as old as 40, but most don't survive past 25? Senior horses face the challenge of not being able to "earn their keep". The feed, veterinary bills, and daily care requirements of a horse over 25 years old are a lot and many horses are euthanized simply because of the cost of care, even when they are in perfect health. What's worse is others are taken to auction and sold for meat.
This could become the path of Annie if we don't get your help! We've already exceeded our limit, and it breaks our heart every time we are asked to take another horse. We recently connected with Jane Anderson, a 76 year old horse owner whose horse is in desperate need of re-housing. This is what she had to say;
“Annie has endured the hardships of life from day 1 when she was orphaned at birth and I have cared for her ever since. Annie and I have had decades of wonderful companionship and exciting days of riding the hills of rural San Diego. She has had a full life of tragedies and abundant love from me, my family, and good friends both 2-legged and 4 legged! She is now 33 years old and in good health but needs the personal care, such as visitations, brushing, baths, etc. My health at 76 has not been good after contracting the original Covid-19 virus in Jan. 2021 before the “oh, so needed vaccines” were readily available. Since then I have developed long Covid with debilitating vertigo and neurological symptoms that the Doctors have difficulty treating as the research is all so new. These struggles are making it difficult for me to take proper care of Annie, and the expenses are becoming too much. Everyone I had reached out to had recommended putting the horse down and moving on but that is no way to treat a healthy thriving living creature. This was until I found the Hills of Gold”
As a family-run organization, every new horse we move in is a large burden on us. With cost and labor, it can take a toll yet luckily it is a task that we love and wish to continue to do. This is where we can use your help! To take in little orphan Annie, we need to take action now before it’s too late.
