Suzanne & Michael Dunkley urgent medical crisis

Hello, my name is Jean and I am fundraising for two dear friends who have been inundated with more than their fair share of medical hardship. Suzanne and Michael Dunkley are in need of your help. It continues to be a long and arduous road for these beloved long-time members of the DC area music community who performed together as Bumpkin Pie for many years.

Suzanne has been bedridden since a serious fall this past April. What doctors initially thought was pneumonia has now been diagnosed as lung cancer. Suzanne has never been a smoker.  She is currently not mobile and requires transport by gurney via ambulance or specially equipped van to medical appoIntments, the insurance allotment for which has run out.

They have had to rent a hydraulic lifting device for removing and returning Suzanne to her bed and oxygen treatment is now necessary. Modifications to their home are urgently needed to accommodate movement, personal care and bathing.  

Nearly 48 years of being together has enabled Suzanne and Michael to help one another and stay positive as their medical issues became more complicated, especially Suzanne's loss of mobility and function over the 27 years since her first Multiple Sclerosis attack occurred.  Her courage and determination to live as normal and joyous a life as possible and Michael’s steadfast devotion as her sole caregiver over the years, despite his own severe medical issues, is an inspiration to all who know them. 

The bills have started rolling in from recent ER visits, hospital stays, purchase of a suitable bed for Suzanne and other necessary equipment, with the need for transportation (at least $300 per trip) to medical appointments and home nursing care looming.

Throughout all of this, Suzanne and Michael have remained hopeful and positive. They could certainly use your help right now to cover their mounting out-of-pocket medical expenses and the urgent need for transportation, nursing care and accommodations in their home.
