Help Swami Agni Ma Knock Out Cancer!

Donation protected

My name is Swami Agni Ma, and I’ve spent my life working 60+ hour weeks helping other people and fighting for those in poverty as a civil rights lawyer and then as a yoga teacher. My goal for 2023 was to help more people than ever. But now those plans have changed due to my recent breast cancer diagnosis.

I have been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years and felt quite healthy, so I was shocked when my doctor referred me to Atlanta Breast Care for an ultrasound during a routine annual appointment. The ultrasound, followed by a biopsy, diagnostic mammogram and MRI confirmed that I have Stage 2 Breast Cancer.

This year I already experienced a 50% salary cut and my husband took a 25% cut- we are spiritual leaders in the yoga community and so we already live a very modest lifestyle, but these cuts took us to the brink financially. When I got the $1,975 bill for that first diagnostic mammogram, my stomach sank, and I realized that soon I would not be able to pay both these bills and my living expenses.

When the doctors explained to me the process to get rid of cancer over the next 12 months, I realized I would not be able to support my classes and private clients and recover my body at the same time. Since finding out about my diagnosis, I have gotten substitutes for my yoga classes, edited the schedule for a course I was leading, and begun planning to train someone else to execute the yoga retreat this summer. Friends have dropped off meals for me and offered to give rides and support during treatment.

The hardest part for me of finding out about my cancer is that the time I used to spend helping and healing others is now spent in doctor's offices, awaiting results, or worrying about finances.

Your donation to me will help me pay my bills and living expenses while I am too weak to work and pay medical expenses so that I can sleep at night. With your help, I can focus my energy on my recovery and getting back to serving those in need in Atlanta as soon as possible.
