Help Sweet Freddy: Financial Support

Freddy was born with a more complex case of Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome in August of 2020. Freddy went into the hospital on Tuesday, October 10th for his scheduled 3rd stage heart surgery, known as the Fontan. During the Fontan surgery, they also repaired his leaking aortic valve. During his heart surgery, Freddy was on heart bypass for a little over 7 hours. Surgery in total lasted about 10 hours. Recovery the first day/night went well, when Freddy’s oxygen saturations started to rapidly drop to 6. They tried CPAP, and re-intubating him in hopes this would help. Unfortunately, they were only able to bring his O2 Sats to the 30’s-50’s, which were dangerously low. They performed an ECHO where they discovered he was suffering from a leaking Mitral valve. The Dr’s and surgeon were perplexed because he had no issues with this valve prior to surgery and it was not touched during his recent surgery. He was then taken into emergency surgery where the surgeon reported she was unable to do anything surgically for him due to being unable to find the cause of the leaking Mitral valve. The surgeon and Dr ‘s believed that it was in Freddy’s best interest to be put on ECMO, a type of life support. Freddy was then taken to the CATH lab, in hopes of them finding something that the surgeon was unable to see. They did discover that his lungs were severely damaged and sick due to being on bypass for so long. They also found out that he tested positive for Adenovirus, a flu like virus that more so attacks your respiratory system. The Dr’s hopes are that Freddy stay on this life support for a bit to give his lungs and body time to heal and rest. Once he is taken off they will need to figure out the root cause of his leaking Mitral valve. If they are unable to figure out the cause, something leaking this severely is not survivable.
