Help Support Sylvia

My name is Sherrie Martineau Dinkins and I am raising funds for my dear friend Sylvia Atwood Coleman to help offset medical expenses.  Sylvia suffered a massive stroke on February 5, 2023 and has been in hospitals and rehabilitation centers ever since. Below is "Sylvia's Story" told by Sylvia. 

Hello. My name is Sylvia Atwood Coleman. I have been in Gainesville for most of my adult life and am turning 87 on May 30th. I've previously worked at Scruggs Carmichael Law Firm, Buchholz High School and ended my career when I retired from Santa Fe College.

On February 5, 2023, I suffered a severe stroke that paralyzed several areas on my left side, including vision loss in my left eye. In addition, I have a feeding tube, cannot walk, and am wheelchair bound.

During the last three months, I have been a patient at North Florida Regional Hospital, UF Shands Hospital, UF Health Rehabilitation Hospital and Magnolia Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center.  My medical insurance will run out soon at which time expenses will have to be paid out of pocket.  I am not able to privately pay for any additional days at a rehab center. My only choice is to return home. While I am excited to be going home again,  there are a lot of necessary arrangements and expenses required. Expenses include medical supplies and equipment, in-home healthcare, such as Nurses, CNA's and Therapists. 

I am very proud of myself for what I've accomplished the last 50 years, but also sad that my income was not enough to save more for long term health care. 

 

I sincerely appreciate those of you who have prayed for me and come by to visit. Thank you for helping  brighten my days and lifting my spirits.  I feel really bad asking anyone for financial support but have very few options.
